Deeply impressed. Melbourne GP weekend and hard to find a hotel so got this one by default. I’ve stayed in five star hotels much worse than this. Excellent staff, comfortable bed, quiet room. Put in washing late and still came back same day. Room not the most modern or luxurious but comfortable and everything worked well. Location couldn’t be better. Great hotel on balance. Highly recommended. Rooms: Great bed. Very quiet room.
Friendly, helpful staff and great location. Our pillows were very hard, would recommend bringing your own if possible. No blankets on the bed but you can request blankets at the front desk. Our room was serviced after only 1 night there, which was a lovely touch. All up, I would recommend this hotel!
Stayed there for 3 nights and was met by a very friendly receptionist-Joanne. The king size bedroom was spacious and the bathroom had been newly renovated. There was a very good daily room service that even folded up my jumper. Price and location were excellent. All staff were friendly.Rooms: 5/5
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but very comfortable and fairly quiet. For a budget hotel it's outstanding for cost and location. Right on the edge of China Town with stacks of cafes, restaurants and next to oodles of shops including Myer & David Jones. We're here for 4 nights, would I stay here again, definitely.
Pros: - Very convenient location in the heart of the city - Reasonably priced - Bathroom was relatively nice - Breakfast was good, with a reasonable range of food and drink options - Staff were quite helpful and friendly Cons: - House keeping didn't clean our room daily, however we were advised of this during check-in - Walls between rooms are very thin. You can hear conversations clearly coming from adjacent rooms - From your room, you can hear just about everything happening in the hallway. When an adjacent room door shuts, it sounds like a cannon going off! - Rooms are quite outdated and basic - There's an old musky smell in the hallway Final thoughts: If the most important thing for you is a convenient location for a reasonable price, this might work for you. However there may be much nicer alternatives nearby for a similar price.
Our room was a basic twin room on the 5th floor. The room was tiny, with a single chair, wardrobe & small study desk. We could not both have our suitcases open as it reduced the floor space again. The bathroom was clean. The pillows were very lumpy, flat & quite uncomfortable. They no longer do daily room cleaning, instead offering a $25 food credit or a bottle of wine. The breakfast was very good, but not worth the full $25 use your credit if you can. Check in was horrific. Not enough staff on to cover the huge number of people all trying to check in/out. Also, the reception area is ridiculously small. Cost is way too high at $250 for our tiny room which looked out to other rooms in a courtyard. Definitely not worth the money spent.
Basic Room. No microwave. No outside view.Comfortable bed. Pillows way to big. Very clean. Air con somewhat noisy for sleeping.Staff very friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast great value and runs for 4 hours. Close to lots of restaurants theatres public transport. Off loading suitcase etc difficult. Park in lane and quickly drop off at desk. Then drive to car park 4 blocks away. discounted for Mercure Welcome hotel guests. We will stay here again.
I've stayed at this hotel a long time ago before it was split into two brands so this stay was disappointing. We had to be moved rooms as the air conditioning in the first room wasn't working and it was like a sauna. There were empty plastic water bottles under the bed from previous guests which you could see sitting on the chair so I don't know how housekeeping missed them. But the staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful and the location is incredible right next to Chinatown and across the road from the emporium shopping centre.
Grateful for the upgrade to a recently revamped room which was fresh and clean. The breakfast experience was good; nothing to complain about. Management informed us that the hotel is undergoing renovations and some parts of the hotel are definitely in need of this, particularly the foyer, which is first impressions.
The reception was very nice, even allowed early check in. Room cleaning is exceptional ,they always restock everything and make our room so clean and nice when we return. The rooms are clean and comfortable and has everything you need. Now it didn't have much decor - paintings or bed furnishings - but I don't mind the latter as it is more hygienic that way. I like the soaps they use as well it looks hipster and is refillable type. Location is great. It is smart to be near chinatown to get a good meal anytime. There's free trams everywhere too I would give it 4.5 star, 0.5 star gone because one lift broke down and was not fixed for 3 days of our trip. It was Easter weekend so understandably some people may not be working, but still was quite a while to be fixed. 12 floors to the building so can be a bit of a wait at peak times. Also the 1st floor public toilet is a little bit dirty but the room toilets are very clean. Walkability: Near chinatown for good food central and Bourke St mall. Very near free tram
