I am an American visiting Melbourne, I can surely teach how to better conduct business without profiling customers. I visited the this location today after the gym with my gym bag. At the checkout, before I had even paid, a staff member immediately asked me to open my bag.nI opened it it was empty and asked why only I was being checked, as no other customers were asked.nI felt this was selective profiling and handled very disrespectfully. Another staff member jumped in, which escalated the situation.nnI expressed how disrespected I felt and left my groceries at the counter without purchasing.nnI understand Aldi has a bag check policy, but there are far better ways to do this:nnA basic Google search or asking Gemini/Grok on how to control stealing without profiling customer or making it publicly awkward would give a better response that what they are doing.nnChecks should be polite and consistent, not targeted.nnPreferably done at the exit after payment. By doing the item count and matching it with receipt.nnOr a reminder on the screen at self checkout to check the personal bag before paying to ensure all items are included and nothing is forgotten else there would be criminal charge.nnStaff training needed to avoid any appearance of profiling.nnThis experience made me feel unwelcome as a customer. Aldi usually offers good value, but customer dignity and fair treatment matter more. Hope this feedback leads to better procedures.
A heads up to this store as there’s no possible way to contact them - the fresh salad Co brand bags of baby spinach have what look like recently hatched cockroaches in them. Not even looking for a refund, just thought I’d let you know as that can’t possibly be good for business or anyone buying them
Be careful to go to Aldi in St. Kilda Inkerman RoadnYesterday I bought a packet of Premium pasta to make a dinner. Came home, opened it and it was mouldy, completely off. It was dated 08/01/2026 more than one month old over the date.nNext day I went to see a manager, his name is Luke. He was smiling and told me there are 12 managers in their store. Probably not enough to rotate the stock???nI don’t think I would go to any Aldi after that. Very disappointing…
They never seem to have a lot of the essentials in stock like the meats section is lacking pretty much all the time, I tried going in at different times and it’s the same. I’ve also been and there’s no baskets available, never seen such an unorganised mess of a store.nnStaff have made me feel extremely uncomfortable at this store, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been asked to show the inside of my bag as some weird store policy in front of numerous customers only for them to not even properly search it, just some casual humiliation ritual for anyone they deem suspicious, the criteria for which is extremely unclear since I’ve been in this store numerous times a week for the past few months and some of the staff know my face.nnWill be going to Cole’s to avoid the humiliation acts.
It's Aldi so it gets five stars for not being coles or woolies. Plus you can bring soft plastics and batteries for recycling/disposal.
