Story

WHO WE ARE
Some of us here at Abacus are mums and dads, some of us are even first time parents. Some of us are aunties, uncles, grandmas or grandpas. Others were once teachers, principals or education officers and some of us still are or are teachers in the making.

One of us has a degree in English Literature, one of us speaks 7 languages and one of us even has a pilot’s licence! One of us has our own food blog, whilst others of us are terrible cooks. One of us is the founder of Granola Girls and one of us once won a beauty pageant. Some of us are strict vegetarians, others of us are allergic to nuts and one of us is even allergic to vegetables (self-diagnosed)! Some of us love to go fishing, one of us owns a pet snake, one of us has swum with crocodiles, whilst some of us are absolutely petrified of spiders. Some have worked at Abacus for over 20 years, and for some, Abacus was our very first job.

Although we are all very different, from different backgrounds, countries and cultures, with different hobbies, and different generations, we all share one thing in common (apart from our love of morning tea), we are all passionate about education, and love what we do.

WHAT WE DO
Every child is unique and we, at Abacus, know that no two children learn the same way. For over 30 years, we have used our world of educational resources (Maths, Literacy and Science) to provide teachers with the nuts and bolts to become the architects of each child’s individual education journey.

WE LOVE SCIENCE
We love science so much, we joined forces with PrimaryConnections. Although not all of us love teaching science, we recognise the importance of science education in children. That’s why in 2011 we became the exclusive Australia-wide distributor of the PrimaryConnections units and kits, an innovative program developed by the Australian Academy of Science.

This partnership creates a complete solution (no pun intended) for the classroom providing all the resources you need to confidently deliver a whole school science program.

With substantial commitment to research and development, Abacus has carefully created the exclusive PrimaryConnections science kits too! These kits are endorsed by the Australian Academy of Science as the only kits suitable for use with the PrimaryConnections units.

DR PAUL SWAN IS OUR GOOD FRIEND
Dr Paul Swans is a maths guru and self-proclaimed "Foosball" aficionado. Abacus is the home of Dr Paul Swan (he doesn’t literally sleep here, but he might as well) and we house a wide range of his outstanding maths resources. In fact, we have worked together with Paul to tailor and develop our entire range of maths products. Paul’s focus has always been to make maths fun and is a strong believer in learning through play.
