I can't rate this place highly enough. My partner and I stayed here just before Christmas, and the nurses and midwives there are fantastic.nIt was great that we pretty much had the place to ourselves too and we found all of the staff super attentive, caring and helpful for all aspects of my partner's stay and even helping and caring for me, whilst teaching me things too!nnI'd highly WBC for any woman/couple considering a stay somewhere after birthing. Head here, be well looked after and receive solid support whilst you get some R&R.
Myself, wife and baby Theo were here last month and thoroughly enjoyed our time at WBC. My wife loved the food and we both welcomed all the love and support we received from all the staff. The staff were very knowledgeable, helpful and the advice was spot on. They teach you everything you can think of and our room was just what we needed, the bathroom was handy and everything was clean and tidy. Pak n Save is a couple of minutes drive down the road for all your snacks and meals dads. We will highly recommend WBC to all our friends and family! Pictured is baby Theo enjoying his cot at WBC.
Everyone raves about Warkworth Birthing Centre so we headed there with very high expectations. I want to post this review to reflect on the other side of this so future parents to go to the facility with open eyes, because I found my stay at Warkworth Birthing Centre traumatic. For context, I had a textbook 'easy' homebirth and was transferred to WBC afterwards for support as a first time Mum.nnFrom the start, I was pushed to breastfeed by the midwives and I was really determined to make this happen. While most were lovely and friendly, they would grab our little boy and push him onto the breast, and he would end up screaming and I would end up in tears every time we tried breastfeeding. I was left feeling defeated and the midwives kept saying 'just keep trying' but instinctually I knew that something was wrong. My partner eventually pulled me out of the place, we sourced a pump and we started bottle feeding our boy - immediately he and I were happier and healthier. A few days later, we met a lactation consultant at North Shore Hospital to check for a tongue tie, though they were also unable to get our boy to latch, because he was too small. Please be warned that WBC doesn't have any qualified lactation consultants on staff and every midwife has different approaches to breastfeeding/childcare which makes it incredibly confusing! Don't expect up to date, science based and/or evidence based approach to newborn care and feeding.nnA second issue is the old school approach. If you want to co-sleep or do things differently - you won't necessarily get the support you need. My partner and I tag team childcare so that we can both rest/recharge. One night I was really struggling to sleep and I needed a room separate from the baby newborns are noisy even outside of the crying, so that I could actually recover. I asked the midwife if my partner could get a temporary room, to enable him to syringe feed baby while I slept. They said there were no rooms available - which from a brief walk down the hallway, was a complete lie. Instead my partner and the baby were put in the lounge, on a couch, with an eye mask to sleep. While this was fine, but with my mental health risk factors and the urgency of the situation, I was unable to understand why they couldn't be flexible and accommodating. It seems unnecessary for both parents to be sleep deprived at the same time, when they can tag team and give each other breaks. I felt that WBC has a very 'traditional' approach to parenting whereby women do majority of the baby caring and men just change diapers. Most millennial 'younger' parents want support to figure out how things can be closer to 50/50 - I don't believe WBC takes this into account.
I recently stayed at Warkworth Birthing Centre following the birth of my second child. This was my first experience of the centre as it was full when my first child was born. What an amazing place this is! The midwives are so knowledgeable and supportive. The room was lovely, and the food is plentiful and delicious. I cannot fault this place. A special mention to Creaghan who was so very warm, supportive and knowledgeable.
Absolutely recommend going here after giving birth, especially if it’s your first baby. The midwives are all so helpful & kind - they provide so much support & advice. We learnt so much and really appreciated their help.nnOur room had a homey feel, with a shared bathroom with one other room for the mothers only - all partners and guests need to use the public one.nnEverything is free - nappies, baby wipes, prescription medicine, even the food which was delicious!! They offer a menu for you to choose from - the partner is provided breakfast although not lunch and dinner however we found the portion sizes to be enough for us to share.nnThank you so much to all the midwives there for helping us with our daughters first week :
