We needed a place to stay overnight on our drive from Wellington to Auckland. The rooms are clean but could do with a little love and care. The location is great. We walked into the centre and enjoyed a river walk. The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. The price was very affordable. If the place was spruced up it would be fabulous.
This motel is under new management and the owners are very keen to upgrade. We stayed because it was dog friendly.nThe restaurant is large with a space outside to eat. The food served is very generous and we were surprised at the amount and that old favourites were on the menu. The fish of the day was particularly delicious. The owners have an exciting opportunity to develop the restaurant into a place that travellers will want to stop at as there isn't much else in Turangi.
Amenities are as expected for a motel. Bed is soft and provided with fan, heater, electric blanket and lots or towels. Showers were warm and had good water pressure. Also given milk, tea, coffee and sugar.nnIdeal location for Turangi.nnFood at the restaurant is horrendous. Do not recommend dining at the lodge. Prices are highly inflated for low-quality food.nnPork belly was too fatty and small with no crisp on the skin - could not finish it. The gratin served with it was extremely dry and tasteless, served with boiled vegetables which had no taste either. Very little apple sauce given. Coleslaw was fine For around $35 a plate, sorely disappointed.nnLamb shank was barely okay. Lamb was tender, but bone had no marrow in it. Portion was also small. Little taste that was only provided by the instant gravy that they use. Mash potato was decent. Served with another lot of boiled vegetables with no taste. Also disappointing for around $30 a plate.nnIntended to order the venison pie, but was told it was out of stock 15-20 minutes after placing out order. Not happy.nnBBQ pulled pork fries is just the pork belly on fries with BBQ sauce, jalapenos and mayonnaise not enough topping. Decent tasting, but not worth the ~$20 price.nnLights above us were also turned off overhead while waiting for food and staff started vacuuming dining area while still in the restaurant well before closing.nnOverall, restaurant was not a positive experience in the slightest. Would recommend dining elsewhere during your stay. Motel itself is good.
Great location, NOT disability friendly which was a question we asked while booking, 7 stairs to climb and NO ramps!!nNO door to the bathroom just to the toilet& shower, the security light shines in all night!nGood bed, microwave and small oven.
Tatty and rundown. Toilet running the whole time we managed to reduce it. Looked like mould on toilet cistern. Window catch broken in bathroom.nCheck in desk could not find our booking which turned out to be a Christian name issue.nHad to ask for extra sachets of coffee. Only 1 shower gell and 1 shampoo provided for 2 people 2 nights. Again reception happy to supply more.nFood in restaurant delicious but no tables on 1st night until 8:10 and none at all on second night.
