We visited the Oxford for dinner and it was amazing. The Shanghai pork belly was delicious and the portions were good. Service was excellent and the waiters/waitresses were really friendly and helpful. There were many people and we didn’t make a reservation so they had to put us at a smaller table, but our waiter kindly let us change to a bigger table which had a lot more space .Would definitely go back again!
Had a great dinner here where all our courses were delicious. I had the best venison I’ve eaten in the South Island. Excellent selection of wines and good advice from the wait staff.nAlso, they cater for gluten free, with all mains being able to be had GF.
We came here with our Mum to have lunch on a Sunday at the beginning of January. We were greeted with a smile by the waitress and asked to wait a bit to be seated. It was just after 12 and about half of the tables were taken. A male waiter then showed us our table, gave us a drinks menu and said that we have to wait at least 20minutes before we can order food without even giving us the food menu and then went to clean up other tables after customers who just left. 10minutes later I asked the waiter how long the food would take after we order and he did not like the question and replied that he can’t possibly know how many minutes it will be exactly and left without taking our drinks order or giving us the food menu. Very weird as the restaurant was definitely not full. We left after 15minutes of waiting and just head a loud “sorry” from the waiter. It was a very unusual and rather an unpleasant experience
We didn't have a booking but they managed to give us a table anyway. If we lived in Timaru we would absolutely come back. Such a marvelous meal. The best garlic bread we've ever tasted. The wagyu beef cheeks meal was perfect. So very tender. The chicken on top of creamed corn with tiny crispy parsnips etc was so very good and the salty gravy/sauce really set it off. Who would think this combination would work so well. The golden syrup dessert and ice cream sundae were as good as the rest of the meal. Top service and a friendly atmosphere. The best meal we've had in a very long time. Highly recommend.
Nice small restaurant with very good food and nice ambiente. One of the best restaurants during my travel through New Zealand.
