Reservations are recommended however with came early at 530pm with a group of 12. The staff are super friendly and were extremely accommodating to young kids chalk and drawings allowed. Thanks heaps for having us!nnFinally had some good Hazy Ale on tap and the food was actually pretty decent. The duck wontons were probably the best dish. This place nails it in terms of hospitality.
Good local pub to stop at if you are in the area. Like what some other reviewers said, recommend booking. We were there at 5.30pm on Thursday and got a table without booking but saw many groups turned down after 6pm. We ordered the cheese burger and lamb salad. The cheeseburger was tasty but fries slightly undercooked and the lamb salad was cold. It would have been nicer if the lamb was warm when served. Also because we got there before 6pm, we were told that any drinks with the * was cheaper because of happy hour but the one we chose with the * was not included. Double check if you are there at happy hour.
We had a mixed experience at The Fat Duck in Te Anau. The burger was absolutely delicious—juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfying. Chips, however, were slightly undercooked, which took away from the meal a bit. What really left a sour taste was the confusion around happy hour. We were told that any drink marked with a star on the menu was included in the happy hour deal, but when the bill came, the drink we selected which did have a star was charged at full price. When we questioned it, staff didn’t offer much clarification or help. It just felt misleading and a bit disappointing.
Reservations, we discovered, are a must. We made it to 8pm first available seating when reserving a day in advance mid-week and we were super hungry. Had to run the gauntlet of a long line of walk-ins and some grumpy comments to find someone who could check us in for our reservation. Once we sat down the rest was impeccable. The food, the service, the wine choices, everything to make the evening memorable.
Food was pretty bang average, but very expensive for what it is. Service was lovely, really nice staff and cute on the inside, just both me and my partner was pretty underwhelmed by the food. We shared the vegan starters & I had the vegan gnocchi and my partner the vegan burger
