We stumbled upon this unassuming little pie shop filled with locals — always a promising sign. Despite the long queue and just one person managing the coffee station, the service flowed with impressive efficiency.nnThe chicken pie was a highlight, featuring a perfectly golden, flaky crust that contrasted beautifully with the rich, succulent filling inside.nnBest enjoyed as a takeaway, bringing a warm pie and freshly made coffee to the lakeside turns a simple stop into a wonderfully scenic and satisfying moment.
An absolute must visit pie bakery in Te Anau/South Island. These were up there in the best pies I've had on my trip across NZ. They're famous for their venison and plum pie and lamb with mint. I ordered the venison pie and loved how tender the meat was and how it all came together with the sweetness of the plum. I also ordered the bacon and egg pie which surprisingly was my favourite and best pie I've had of that flavour. The mince and cheese was nice but could be less rich? Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this place. The staff are friendly and efficient, place is clean and there is parking out front.
Stopped here to grab one of their famous venison & plum pies. Good filling, decent size for the price. They have lots of flavours so if venison is not your thing..plenty of other options..worth a stop to grab a bite.
Excellent pies, baked in store.nWe had the steak and cheese, steak bacon and mushrooms amd blueberry and apple pie. They were some of the best pies we had in New Zealand.nHighly recommend this place for staff friendliness and amazing, fresh, delicious pies.
During our New Zealand trip, we made it a point to try as many meat pies as possible, and out of all of them, this is still the place I find myself thinking about. Even after tasting pies all over the country, none stood out quite like this one. While we were staying in Te Anau, I already knew we had to come here — it was one of those stops you plan your day around.nThe shop itself is small and unassuming, the kind of place you might walk past if you weren’t looking for it, but once you step inside, you immediately get the sense that they take their pies seriously. There were so many great options on the menu that it was hard to choose, which is always a good sign. Everything looked fresh, hearty, and made with care.nWe ended up ordering the classic steak and cheese, along with the venison pie. The steak and cheese was exactly what a great meat pie should be — rich, comforting, and full of flavor, with tender meat and just the right amount of cheesy goodness. It was satisfying without being heavy and clearly made with quality ingredients.nThe venison pie, however, completely stole the show for me. The venison was tender and flavorful, and the addition of plum created a beautifully balanced flavor profile. The slight sweetness from the plum paired perfectly with the richness of the meat, adding depth without overpowering it. It felt thoughtful and well-crafted, not just different for the sake of being different.nThe pastry itself deserves special mention as well — perfectly baked, flaky, and sturdy enough to hold all that filling without falling apart. Every bite felt intentional, from the texture to the seasoning.nThis place is a perfect example of how something simple can be done exceptionally well. It may be a small shop, but the quality of the food makes it stand out in a big way. If you’re in Te Anau and even remotely interested in meat pies, this is an absolute must-visit. I would go back in a heartbeat, and honestly, it’s one of those places that makes you plan a return trip just for the food.
