The Chippy

We ordered from here because our usual place wasn’t open today. This has to be the worst fish and chips experience we’ve ever had. I don’t usually bother to write reviews but I don’t want anyone else to have to go through this. The chips were dark brown as if they’d been fried 10x. The fish was in the shape of a pancake with holes in it, I’m not even sure how they managed to do this, super dry also. The spring roll was sweet and creamy like a desert. Very disappointing and all I hope is that the business can take something from my review and better their service.

Great take away eatery that has a big variety of foods to order from. There are a few tables available for enjoying a meal inside or take your meal home. Portions are big and prices very reasonable. Very friendly staff and its always good to see them and have a friendly conversation with them. Parking available at the small complex - they are closed o Mondays for their day off. Summer time they stay open a bit later.

Incredibly priced for the quality they provide! These are the best Fish and Chips I've had in ALL of New Zealand! Is crispy without being oily, I don't know how they do it, but 11/10 my wife and I will go there again. Seeing as they're so far from home for us, you we go to the beach which is 2 minutes away.

The worst eating out experience I have ever had. The food was overcooked, greasy and portions were ridiculously small. I called to give feedback and was told to return the food do they could recook. When I arrived the chef continuously shouted at me in front of customers. Told me because all of the food was not returned he was neither going to refund or recook. He said the food was cooked perfectly and what I was after was ‘undercooked’ food. So because my kids are a couple of burnt onion rings we did not get our money back. His behavior was disgusting.

I moved to Torbay recently and tried this shop a few times and then I thought I found the best fish chip ever. The chip is so yummy and crispy. There used to be young men and a middle age lady there. But the recent two times’ order are not good. Last Thursday, I ordered 5 $fish& chip , 2 scallops,2 oysters, all yummy except the chips, it is too soft. I eat immediately after pick up. I pick up immediately after they cooked. I called back, a lady answered the call said I have to tell them I want crispy chips. Today 11 Nov, I ordered 2 premium crispy chips , 1 fish, 4 oysters in afternoon 4:07 pm, I pick up at around 4:20pm, spent 17$ with cash. a middle age man was there. This is the worst time I ever ordered. Non of the chips , fishes, oysters are yummy, all of them are over cooked, not even meet the average quality of all other fish shops. Very disappointed today. I can’t finish the fish, throw most them in rubbish can. I found that the young guys there do a good job, especially a thin, white, small eyes Korean young man. He speaks good English

Best Fish and Chips on North Shore. Crispiest battered fish. Uses rice bran oil. No lingering smell of over-used fried oil. For under $15, three people can enjoy a decent meal. Grab your hot F n C and drive 200m to the Browns Bay beach and get priceless views while eating your lunch or dinner. BYO your drinks and coleslaw. There are a couple of tables in the shop if the weather is not so good. For three persons, two portions of chips $5.00, three battered fish of the day red cod $9.00. Total $14.00 Extras: Battered mussel $1.00, oyster: $2.50 Friendly service. We brought friends there and they have given thumbs up and brought their own families there.

An average chippy but consistent. The owners are friendly and accommodating. They take special orders too. I only recently discovered that they serve Kumara fried for a mere $4.50 and it's amazing.

You cant beat the Cheesy Weezies, cheese burger or potatoe fritters. Always fresh and hot and lovely service. Can do phone orders and easy pick up location in Browns Bay. Lots of room to seat while waiting and very, very reasonable prices.
