Fishsmith

Over the last 4 years I come here once every couple of months and always enjoyed their fresh snapper and chips. Today was a different experience, soggy and very oily mushy chips that tasted frozen rather than their fresh Agria potatoes and a VERY over cooked snapper that was dry certainly not fresh with really thick stale batter. I ordered online and the prices have increased quite a bit and I was also charged a surcharge which never used to happen, very disappointing given the decrease in quality. I didn’t eat much of it, although what I did eat has left me feeling pretty sick : Unless the quality increases, I won’t be going back :

Loved it!We went and tried reading the article too and to have these options they offer is indeed a rarity With Frankie loving snapper and they grilled it which is the first fish and chips shop we've ever visited that offered such option We were very happy indeed and Frankie polished it! We are regulars now

Disclaimer: The photo does not do it justice. We ordered battered fish tacos with kumara chips. The fish was crispy and the serving was generous! If you’re not a big eater, I’d highly recommend sharing the meal with a friend and maybe ordering some extra sides to nibble on. The battered oysters and crab sticks are both delicious options. As is the smokey? aioli the white coloured one.

Absolutely delicious spiced fish tacos and chips. The American Donut was tasty. Friendly and efficient staff. FishSmith is great for takeaway as seating is limited and competitive.

We tried the FIsh burger and Calamri burger. Good quality, taste good, nice quality bun. A bit on the pricey side.

Been here a few times in the past and was consistently great fish and chips. Was looking forward to the same but was unfortunately let down. After a 35 minute wait, seemed very busy tonight 6:30pm and unfortunately quality has suffered. Soggy greasy fries looks like oil not clean and fish batter not crisp, fish it self didn’t feel fresh as it was mushy. Donut was ok a little doughy. Crumbed Fish burger had way too much sauce and crumb was too thick and greasy. Hope quality is better next time otherwise better going elsewhere.

The Fish Smith quality has changed. The chips used to be hand cut and be worth it. It's new business owners changed it to frozen potato chips instead of hand cut chips and still charge the same price. The chips were greasy and the oil needed changing. Also the batter on the snapper is not the same quality. Needs to be beer batter to be more like The Original Fish Smith and please serve with lemon, like the original Fish Smith. The snapper was fresh, but the batter could be better.

Worst Fish 'n Chips we have had in years. Overcooked, fat sodden batter and dried out fish. Chips so overcooked and sodden with fat that they must have been fried at least twice. Used to be very good but this was so bad we will probably never return. To add insult we were told there would be a 35 minute wait for our order which became nearly an hour. Get your act together!
