The Ancient Mariner

I had to try their crayfish roll when it was available. It was beautifully fried, well presented and a good balance in the brioche roll. Good flavors, juicy cray, soft roll. A pity it was only for a limited time. Fries good as usual, best around.

Way to expensive for what the quality was we got. the batter was so oily left an oil puddle in the box and burnt, tasted funny, and the fish was not fresh. The shop looked like it was under renovation, definitely a letdown from the website saying award winning.

I ordered 1 paua fritter, 1/2 scoop of chips and 1 tarakihi fish and it came to $22.50. This is pretty expensive for fish&chips but forgivable if it was good. Sadly my order was one of the worst fish&chips experiences I've had. I asked for no salt for all my items however everything was very salty, the batter on the fish and fritter was super oily and almost burnt. The fish was overcooked and dry inside. I ended up just eating the fritter and the inside of the fish as I was very hungry and threw everything else.

It's really rare to find hand cut chips in Auckland. Mariner fish and chips did not disappoint. Amazin and tasty hand cut chips and delicious fresh fish of the day. Highly recommend this amazing chippy

I used to love this place, not just for its fresh fish, but for the real chips, not the frozen and fried kind you get in most places. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. I hope they go back to the old way of making their chips.

Wow, I’m taking it that this place is under new management now as our order tonight was SOOOO DISAPPOINTING! What has happened in the last year since I last visited The chip portion is ridiculously tiny for $4, the Beef burger has turned into a poor imitation of a Big Mac for double the price note: if people wanted a Big Mac they would just go to McDonald’s & the fish was cold- which was the only good thing about my order! I feel robbed & guilty that I raved on about this place as being the best in Auckland!

These guys deliver on food and service, good quality food.. Just a minor issue, fish is very good but the batter is very oily, not sure why.. could be the batter used or the oil needs replacing.. service is very good , counter guy was so cool

Far too expensive for what I got, and the burger was way too salty. The beef patty taste like fish which shows that there was no division of foods which I find disgusting. I considered going back for a refund but gt staff were not overly friendly or approachable and more interested in talking about their lives than creating any type of customer rapport. I won’t be back. Yuck

I really like the food here but I walked past the other evening when the shop was closed and there was a dude on his laptop at a table in the window with no shirt on and it was giving really weird creepy vibes. Now I got the ick

Too expensive for takeaway fish and chips, full scoop of chips was about $9 and not very big. Burger was soggy. Fish was not fresh but not terrible.
