Better to visit in days with sunshine, could take better photos.nnNot too much people in the spot, can capture different angle of the tree, each angle has its own style.nnHave been went there twice, one with cloudy, rainy day, one with sunny day, totally different in the vibe.
You will know why I rated it 4 stars instead of the max. The tree wasn’t submerged fully when I was there, probably due to low tide. Pictures were still nice, but it would have been nicer if the tree was fully in the water. Free parking available.
The tree has an amazing history, but the tree itself looks standard. The area around it however, is BEAUTIFUL and worth the walk around. Get away from the crowd and just walk around the place. There is a huge tree just opposite this Wanaka tree, facing inland and is stunning.
It's quite astonishing to see a single beautiful tree standing alone in the middle of the water drawing such a crowd. It's even more surprising how popular it has become on social media. Just by adding a hashtag to it on Google Maps, this tree has turned into a real hotspot! People seem to flock to it, drawn by its unique charm and the stunning photos that circulate online.
Crowded place since it is so popular on social media, but can take photo enough. Can walk around just not for the tree, but for the scenery of the Lake Wanaka with autumn vibes if you came on April. And it is free.
