Visited Sushil’s Musclechef Kitchen & Café in Aotea and was greeted straight away by Sushil himself – incredibly friendly and welcoming. We chatted about how he created his Molten Embrace dessert from Choctober Fest, which turned out to be amazing – rich, indulgent, and beautifully presented.nnFor entrées, we had the Dum Chicken which was juicy and perfectly cooked, served with a really unique mint relish I’d never tried before but really enjoyed. My main was the market fish with cauliflower purée, spinach, and coconut curry sauce – so full of flavour, even my partner who usually hates cauliflower loved it! He had the lamb shank with rogan josh sauce and saffron rice – an interesting twist on a classic and very tender.nnI also tried a keto coconut chocolate cheesecake from the cabinet, which wasn’t for me – not much sweetness and the shredded coconut base just crumbled apart. The only other downside was the cost; dinner for two no drinks came to $160.nnThat said, the food was creative, the flavours were excellent, and Sushil’s hospitality really stood out. Worth visiting for the experience and personal touch. Highly recommend for diabetics very rare to find a place with so many keto options!
I have tried majority of the breakfast/lunch menu and have never been disappointed. The wait time isn’t to long compared to most cafes.nFriendly staff always happy to help, the owner is super friendly and greets his customers with a smile.nnI ordered the following:nFish of the day - Ratatouille with pestonSoup of the day - Asparagus and dill with ciabattanButtermilk fried chicken tacos only soft shellnChoctober submission - S’mores flavoured contains no sugar!!nApple juice with icennThe fish was amazing paired with the ratatouille and surprisingly the pesto which was something different for me.nThe soup was my favourite! Did not lack flavour throughout including the ciabatta which had a great amount of garlic not overpowering. Would definitely order this again.nI’ve had alll the tacos but the buttermilk is my favourite and my go too! It’s light & crispy not heavy as some fried chicken can be.nTheir s’mores Choctober drink is a must try !!! I don’t like dark chocolate but gave it a go, sharing with my mum. Doesn’t taste like artificial flavouring and is quite nice considering it doesn’t have added sugars.nnHighly recommend to anyone. But definitely book on weekends as they get busy. nAs we’re leaving the owner said goodbye with a big wave. Small things like that make the overall experience better. Thank you for ur good food ‍
We’ve always enjoyed the high-quality, convenient daytime meals at Sushil’s Musclechef, but our first evening dining experience was something genuinely special.nnThe evening service offers a more intimate and refined atmosphere, paired with a thoughtful menu that highlights Sushil’s unique culinary identity—blending cultural heritage and modern flavour in a way that feels deeply personal and original.nnWe started with the pumpkin soup with coconut, rich and comforting, and the smoked chicken Caesar salad, fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented.nnThe mains were outstanding: the braised lamb shank was melt-in-your-mouth tender, infused with bold, soulful flavour, while the market fish was perfectly cooked and delicately seasoned.nnDessert was a highlight—the chocolate fondant, with its warm molten centre and vanilla bean ice cream, was pure indulgence.nnWe ended the night with extra hot oat flat whites, smooth and perfectly made.nnWhile the daytime menu brings quality and convenience, the evening experience feels crafted, personal, and elevated—a reflection of Sushil’s passion for food and hospitality. His presence and care make all the difference.nnA special experience worth repeating. We’ll definitely be back. A true local gem.nnLalo Fiso
Finally stopped in for a quick weekday lunch just before the kitchen closed. We ordered the chicken katsu burger and the lamb souvlaki wellness bowl. The burger was phenomenal. Fresh, juicy chicken with a crunchy coating that was not at all greasy. Tasty pickle and coleslaw, just the right amount of mayo, and a soft bun. The fries were hot and crunchy. The wellness bowl was beautiful and colourful, full of flavor and great textures. Highly recommend.
Honestly this is one of the best cafes I’ve ever been in New Zealand. Top quality service and food. We recently went there for a WOAP Burger 2025, undoubtedly one of the best burgers and we ended up getting their other cafe food pie, muffin, deserts too which was incredible.
