How lucky are we to have a restaurant like Saltwater on our doorstep. The venue is fabulous as are all the staff who work there. The food is next level- perfectly cooked with beautiful flavours which are sensational. Cannot speak highly enough of this place. Vegetarian options: Choices available Kid-friendliness: Kids menu available Wheelchair accessibility: Flat wide easily accessed entry with space to manoeuvre inside
I was so excited to try Saltwater, that I made it a date night and allowed the Favourite Husband out too. He’s a lucky man. We were disappointed that there were no oysters, but totally accept the wild weather has impacted food across the board. I was more disappointed when my gin was paraded past me and given to someone on another table. But it was promptly remedied and when a new one did arrive, it was exceptionally good. The sashimi entree was excellent. Beautiful sashimi grade selection and worth the $45 price tag to share. The Thai crab cakes were bland but ok. Mains were depressing. I always scan the restaurant menu in advance and had already settled on the flounder. But it was sadly over cooked, salty and would have been swimming in butter were it not for the fact it was deceased. The Favourite Husband had the burger which was greasy and not particularly flavoursome. The atmosphere was good, the music was too, the service was outstanding but the food let it down. I’d return for an afternoon gin and tonic, listen to the sounds and watch the world go by, but there are better places to eat.
The sashimi plate with dry-aged fish was amazing and had the wood-grilled swordfish as a main. The vibe of the place is great. The dinner was amazing. Can only recommend.
We had a great lunch here. It was busy and atmosphere was great with some funky classic house beats playing. The place was full despite the miserable weather outside. It has a great fit out - open plan kitchen with chefs making food in front of you and they even had a girl making great cocktails to order. Colouring options for rhe lottle pnes.Def recommend it!
We went for dinner. The service staff were great and made the experience. The raw oysters were really great, well prepared but all of the cooked seafood, battered oysters, calamari and battered fish and fish of the day were all really over cook and we didn't finish our meals. The cocktails were tasty and beef burger was great.
The guy at the front needs to smile and give us locals a warm welcome. Our waitress Kaiya was amazing and she is friendly, welcoming and goes above and beyond with lovely table service and mannerism. Ceviche was delicious and only a spoonful on the plate. Curry mussels 12 delicious and fresh. Fish burger was murdered as batter fast cooked and tasted overcooked. Sweet kumara fries were okay, few burnt ones in there. We did get 10% of the burger that was overcooked. Cocktails looked amazing and maybe sort your music out too… I probably would go back for the mussels and cocktails. 45 minutes to get our food, I don’t know how long you would wait when busy….. Absolutely the most amazing menu! There was 8 of us and we each got a different plate. Sensational taste and presentation was so on point. The entrees were sensational and serving size was perfect. Service from staff were excellent The whole experience was fantastic Highly recommend
Overall service and atmosphere was good but food needs improvement. For example Burgers came with brioche buns which are way too sweet for meat burgers. Calamari was over cooked. Fish of the day was ordered as Hapuka but then told later that none available and offered Snapper which was small, oily and very salty with a basic salad. Mussels however were excellent.
Great waitress. Nice decor. Food terrible. Gem fish for fish and chips was soggy and tasteless. Whole flounder was overcooked and floating in oil. I suspect it had been frozen. Beef burger was ok except for the beef patty being well overcooked hard and tasteless. A very disappointing meal. Will not go back or recommend.
What a cool place! Had a few drinks and snacks this arvo. Definitely coming back for dinner.
