Definitely recommend reserving a table here at the Powerhouse Cafe and Restaurant. This popular Cafe has some beautiful cabinet food and a banging menu to order from. We were visiting Hanmer over Matariki weekend and the brunch we had here was the best. There were 5 of us so we decided to ring that morning to reserve a table inside as it was pretty cold outside. This Cafe does have seating outside and also seating under a marque which has little outdoor heaters and they do also provide blankets, but we have sat outside before not under the marque and it was quite wet and damp on the seating so to get a table inside was great! We ordered a range of food from the Highland Fling which was porridge with drambuie yes a shot of drambuie, bananas with a creme brulee crunch, rhubarb and whipped cream and fruit and my oh my it did not disappoint, absolutely loved this pimped out porridge! Also ordered Seafood chowder which was packed with goodness! My son ordered the big breakfast and he said it was the tastiest and best breakie he had that whole weekend. Also one of us ordered the steak sandwich which was a hit! Cheese scones and brownie were also very nice. The coffees were so good too. Great attentive staff, friendly and accommodating...there was an issue with our inside table but was quickly resolved, we really appreciated that. The staff here are super busy as this cafe is very popular and is constantly buzzing, so they really do deserve a gold metal, thank you for your service! The food was 10/10! Totally recommend eating at this cafe in Hanmer Springs.
Stopped in after the hot pools for brunch on a cold overcast day and was warmed through from a divine Scottish porridge with rhubarb, banana and caramelised sugar. Hubby had a generous plate of bacon, eggs, potato cake and sausage with a tasty relish.nBoth very yummy and a good coffee to wash it down.nFilled us up well ready for drive to Nelson.nStaff were lovely and chatty. Facilities well maintained.nHighly recommend.
We had breakfast at the powerhouse on Good Friday and everything was excellent.nWe got there at 8am and most of the tables inside were occupied but plenty of room outside under the heaters.nStaff was friendly taking our order and delivering it to the table. Good variety of cabinet food and menu with vegetarian and vegan options.nThe food was really good, nice heaping servings and came out quickly. I had the chilli eggs which could have definitely been spicier, not a big kick to it but delicious and my husband had the big breakfast. His eggs were great too and lots on the plate. Coffees were nice and hot and great tasting.nWe also shared a carrot cake, it was one of the best carrot cakes I ever had. Super moist and flavourful.nGreat work team and appreciate you working on a public holiday!
Had an excellent experience at Powerhouse Café in Hanmer Springs. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a great balance of indoor and outdoor seating that makes it perfect in any weather.nnThe food was outstanding—fresh, well-presented, and full of flavour. The menu has plenty of variety, and everything we ordered came out quickly and exactly as expected. The coffee was top-notch as well, easily some of the best in town.nnWhat really stood out was the service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome without being over the top.nnOverall, a fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch. Highly recommend stopping in if you’re in Hanmer Springs—you won’t be disappointed.
Powerhouse is a local cafe situated in an old Powerhouse building along Jack's Pass Road in the Hanmer Springs town centre. They have indoor and outdoor seating and offer a range of breakfast and lunch items and are open from 7.30am to 2pm daily.nnMade a quick stop here and picked up a muesli bar and slice of carrot cake which we very much enjoyed later in the day. The Muesli bar which compact, rich and sweet, perfect for a hiking snack and the carrot cake was loaded and tasted delicious. Would gladly return for both and to try a proper sit down meal here next time in Hanmer Springs based on this experience.
