love that they have gluten free buns for me, I had the bacon and egg burger. was pretty good but overall, my gluten full friends said the fish n chips didnt live up to their expectations. not crazy about the gravy cheese fries. wish they had ketchup for free, its $7 bucks for a small bottle or $.80 for a tiny packet
Surprised others had such bad experiences here because mine was exceptional! Fish was cooked excellent and was largely portioned. Had the snapper and the portion was great, cooked beautifully, and chips were delicious. Only $25 NZD for one piece of fish, chips, 6 dumplings, and 3 sauces.
Pretty much on par what I expected. The food was good but far from the best. The service was friendly and warm. Nice they have a few tables and chairs inside to wait or eat in as was freezing outside. Hanmer tourist prices but accepted that before I walked in the door. $9 for a snapper was like wow. The wait wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't a busy time of year. The hotdog was a winner for me. Overall experience was ok, but you're limited for fnc choice there so just bite the bullet.
If I could give this a zero star rating I WOULD. I love my fish n chips, but I couldn’t even eat any of it. Fish - burnt. chips - greasy and tasted stale. Scallops - crumb completely inedible. Also no seasoning. Waste of my 35 bucks. The one highlight was the customer service. Definitely will not be coming back though.
My friends and I were so relieved this place was open on a Sun! The craving for fish and chips after the thermal pools was real and I was quite excited not to mention hungry. Even though the hunger had set in I didn't really want to eat at the shop as there wasn't alot of seating indoors for a large group and it just wasn't appealing. You could eat outside I suppose. I ordered the crumbed blue cod with chips, tartare dip, calamari rings and nuggets. The calamari was so chewy and the batter was flavourless. I was expecting them to be crumbed. A lemon wedge was the major missing component so glad that we had lemons at the Air BnB. You can't have fish without a squeeze of lemon! Everything else was tasty and I'd order from here again the next time I'm in Hanmer Springs.
