Palmerston North Hospital Emergency Room

Very efficient and friendly service from all team members - from the security guard who offered a wheelchair and advice on parking to my wife to the discharging consultant. Arrived at 0430hrs with internal abdominal injuries to discover a fairly full but calm waiting room. The nurse-led triage was thorough and sensitive to possible deterioration. Had to wait until around 0700 for admission to clinical area, but realistic after assessment. Every contact was perfect.

I can't thank the staff at ED enough for their care of me last week. It was only my second visit there and despite being extremely busy, they took care of me. I may have been there for 4 hours but during that time I was triaged, blood tests, xray and CT scan before being admitted which took time to find a bed in a ward.nAgain thankyou very much for looking after me. Palmerston North ED needs some serious upgrades, more staff or a more accessible, affordable after hours clinic. The wait times are horrific. The ED waiting room is very very small and was so packed at 5.30pm that there were people sitting and lying on the floor or standing - one hunched over in pain. I can not fault the front desk staff, cleaners, nurses and Doctors etc though. They were absolutely incredible! Despite the madness they were all very friendly, helpful and thorough. Healthcare throughout New Zealand is in a bit of a state and I have worked and seen many different hospitals through the country…… but this one was on another level :

Waiting 15+ hours on a quiet night turned morning only to be met with a venomous reception bodes poorly. Everyone has their own stresses, issues and duties, but here it seems quality management of such is a continent away.

If you want to slowly fade away into death, Palmy ER is the place for you! You can expect to wait for hours no matter whether you're heart is normal or in a dangerous rhythm! Can't breathe? No worries, the horror of care is so shocking it'll take your breath away anyway. Bleeding out? You'll get unlimited tissues! Who could ask for more?nHonestly you'd probably get better care at a vet clinic.
