Palmerston North Hospital Emergency Room

Not here to rant, just setting expectations.nIf you have a not so emergent emergency, it can take up to 12 hours of wait time we went there at 9:50 pm and only got out at about 9 am the next day for them to tell you to contact your GP and let them figure out what is wrong, so I would suggest you wait to go to your GP from the get go if it is possible. The wait is only worth it if there’s no other option.nThis doesn’t mean that the stuff are bad or slow at the hospital or anything, they are doing their absolute best to keep up with everyone coming in with different things and existing patients fainting in the waiting room, so please keep an understanding mind while you’re in there. Getting impatient and mad won’t make it any faster or make whatever you are there for go away.

I understand that a lot of people have had negative experiences of late.nHowever today I was apprehensive about going from what I had heard and have never been before.nFortunately for me my experience was positive, from start to finish 4 hours.nThe nurses and doctors, receptionist and St John’s were wonderful and professional in my time there.nSo thumbs up.Thank you.

Staff are incredibly rude and impatient, incredibly dismissive. I understand they under a lot of pressure and have probably been working incredibly long shifts, however, that is NO excuse to be so rude. It is disgusting behaviour from supposed 'health care professionals'. There was no sympathy or compassion, your patients are people too and deserve to be treated with respect. Not our problem if you've dealt with angry people all day, I've approached you with respect and a genuine concern, I deserve respect in return.

Absolutely disappointed with my experience, came in Sunday night and left with under the promise to come back for an ultrasound 9am Monday.. done that, waited until 12pm before I was told ultra sound wouldn't be until 4pm but I wasn't allowed to leave, 3.45pm she comes and tells me that I wouldn't be seen today and to come back tomorrow, in which I did.. no real answer as to what is wrong, just an assumption. Have come back in for the 4th day in a row with servere pain and have currently been waiting 6 hours.. if it wasn't for there incompetence I wouldn't of been here in the first place. Not to mention that on Sunday when i come in there was a poo smear on the toilet hand rail.. still on there Wednesday afternoon. Absolutely disgusting.

Terrible indian staff. Very arrogant and rude. Got a prescription of controlled drugs. The amateur doctor didn't add their ID number to the script. Had to waste time. The chemist had to ring the hospital to follow it up. Nurses didn't even know how to fit a neck brace.
