Otukaikino Wetland

It was Great! Should have done this much earlier! They have a a toilet. It was a very easy walk. Hats off to the sponsors and volunteers. Well done!!!!!!!

Nice wee walk on a grass muddy track, make sure you have good footwear, took about 25 minutes even tho the sign said 35 minutes.nNot very peaceful as its next to a busy motorway. Toilets are available and lots of car parking. Big picnic area with lots of seating. No dogs.n-Otukaikino is a 13ha fresh water wetland reserve within Christchurch that is being restored as a living memorial since 1992. The long term project is a joint venture with Lamb and Hayward. For every funeral Lamb and Hayward arrange a native is established in the reserve, a place of commemoration for family anf friends to visit.nIt is one of the few remaining original wetlands that were once common.nnYoull see Pukeko, mallard ducks, fantails, shoveler, eels, whitebait.

Great place to walk, relax and appreciate our natural and native plants.

The track was good but lots water over parts track but also the bridge was swamped with water and didn’t look safe to cross
