New World Papatoetoe

I’ve always come to this store to buy whole fish, and normally if I ask them to clean it for me they will. Today I went in to ask for exactly that and saw that they’ve actually placed a sign up saying they’ll clean whole fish between certain hours. When I requested for my whole tarakihi to be cleaned, the Asian lady in the photo told me no. She said it’s difficult for her to clean the fish for customers when it’s only her - apparently there needs to be two people around for this to occur.nnI told her quite bluntly she should then take the sign down! She eventually caved, but also frustratingly said she would clean the fish for me as if I’m causing her some huge inconvenience…the sign continued to stay up as well even after I walked away with my fish. I wonder how many others will ask and be refused if they don’t push back like I did?nnSounded more like the lady was too lazy to clean any fish for customers, but also knows she can’t take down the sign otherwise she will be told off by management. Surely if there’s a genuine issue preventing you from carrying out a service you could just flip the sign down??nnNot a nice way at all to treat loyal and paying customers. I have little sympathy now when people blatantly walk in and steal from groceries from stores.nnI’ve also now come home and seen that she has just cut off the dorsal fin and scrubbed off some scales. The guts were still in the belly and streaming out under its throat. I also had to descale the fish more myself.

I haven't been back in 7 years. The modern layout is excellent with more space to walk around. But as a person with low vision, the price tags are awfully too small to see compared to the classic yellow stickers and black font: I had the same issues when I first experienced the revamp in 2018. There were no baskets during my most recent visit.

Fantastic place to shop and very handy to where I live. The staff are lovely friendly people and the shop is very clean and everything is well presented.

Always fresh fruit and vegetables. Yummy bakery. The store is always stocked and very tidy. Prices are upside but not usually high

I admit I mistakenly bought a $20 One voucher instead of Skinny, so I went back to New World with my receipt & voucher & asked nicey if I could change it for a Skinny vioucher instead. The Indian attendant looked at me pissed off and said, 'oh its going to take a long time' you'll have to wait while I serve these other people. I didn't mind because I had made the mistake, but I waited & waited while she fluffed around & attended other customer until she notices me when I step up to the counter, and asks for my topup voucher agaun. It was still taking a long time, so I asked for my $20 One topup, I can give that to one of my whanau and bought another Skinny topup. I'm not rich, but I know when I'm being mucked around with, and that pisses me off! It won't stop me from shopping there, but it makes me aware who to watch!
