Saturday morning pie and coffee at the recommendation of my wife for the coffee. 10.15am and there was already a queue starting to form.. obviously a popular place. Chose a steak and pepper pie from the cabinet from a wide variety of flavours from venison to vegetable. The pie was medium size with a fluffed pastry looking top. Price was $8.50 so I thought it better taste good due to the size and price, ordered also a flat white with 2 sugars... my standard. Had to wait for the coffee about 5-10 mins which was ok and a good chance to see the busy staff at work like bees in a hive everyone worked together to get through the orders. And deliver to the waiting guests. From standing in a queue that was at least 10 parties deep the wait time was very short and the staff polite and efficient. The pie and coffee, well the pie I knew as I sunk my teeth into the flakey top pastry and into the meatie goodness inside that I was not going to be disappointed. It was very well balanced flavour and full of meat with the right amount of pepper for my liking.. leaving a pepper taste to follow which mixed with a coffee was an awesome start to a Saturday. The coffee was hot and the brew was perfect. Coffee rating 9.5, pie rating 9.5always room to make heavenly although very close this time. Will I be back... most certainly... I hope the kids play soccer close again next weekend...or I might have to make an excuse during the week.
We went to LeBakermen for lunch as we had heard great reviews from friends. I ordered the Chicken, Cranberry & Brie pie. Of the many cafés we went to in the South Island, this one was by far the best. The crispy and flavourful pastry, the delicate chicken breast, and the tasty brie were delicious. The pie by itself was quite filling. Would stop by again.
Food, service, and prices were great. One of few places in NZ that got my girls coffee order correct 3 of this, one of that. Or 3 of that one of this, it’s a complicated order.
These hokie cookie sandwiches are amazing! $9, but practically a meal. They happily provide a bag for you to take the rest home if it defeats you.
UpdatenHad a spare half hour, so went in for a quick coffee with my husband. No complaints. Coffee was nice and it was a nice quiet time of the morning.nnWe had an hour to spare today and decided to make an impromptu visit to the LeBakermen Cafe and we were not disappointed. nI had a Caesar salad and a decaf coffee and both are just great. My cousin had the venison & red wine jus pie and my sis had the eggs Benedict. All around, we had a lovely time and the staff are very nice and polite too. Keep up the great work. nI've put this cafe on my list for frequent visits.
