Reviews
I’m incredibly disappointed with my recent stay at Hotel Armitage. From start to finish, the experience was unpleasant and far below expectations, especially since I had brought my grandmother, who was leaving her home for the first time in 10 years, to spend time with family.nnWe checked in late, around 8 PM, and were greeted by a staff member who seemed uninterested in helping us and took an unnecessarily long time to process our check-in. Upon entering the room, we were immediately hit with a strong odor, which made it clear that the windows hadn’t been opened or the carpet properly cleaned.nnThe room itself was uncomfortable. The mattress was so bad that my grandmother couldn’t sleep, and the iron provided in the room was broken. To make matters worse, the building seemed outdated, with an old lift that felt unsafe and unsettling noises throughout the night. The noise level in general was disruptive and only added to the stress of our stay.nnAt 1 AM, we received a call from a staff member asking how many people were in our room and insisting that our family visitors leave. This caused my mother to have a panic attack, leaving us all distressed for the rest of the night. My grandmother was so upset by the whole experience that she now insists on returning home to Auckland.nnI had high hopes for this hotel based on the friendly booking experience online, but the reality was extremely disappointing. For the price we paid, we expected much better service, cleanliness, and hospitality. Unfortunately, this was one of the most unpleasant stays we’ve ever had, and I wouldn’t recommend Hotel Armitage to anyone.
Great location, very close to a range of restaurants, food, supermarket and shops, including the beach. Rooms are very outdated for the price you pay. Large room and bathroom but the showers have curtains which don’t keep the water in the shower which caused a lot of water to pool in the bathroom. We called the reception to ask for more towels and if they had a mop and they said they’d send someone over to look at it. 30 minutes later and I ended up just going to reception as no one came. When i asked about the minor flooding, the lady said sorry and that they don’t have a mop but can give me an extra towel to wipe it up. Took the towels and cleaned up the mess but this will happen with every shower… every day. Floors are also very slippery when wet. Might be worth investing in shower doors or having drainage in the bathroom for such circumstances.
Stayed for one night after having eye surgery next door at Tauranga Eye Clinic.nVery helpful staff and nice meals. Room was spacious and comfortable. Thanks to all concerned for their help and hospitality.
The room was okay, overpriced for the standard I feel, in excess of $360. I think it has been recently renovated. There is no extraction system in the bathrooms, so it very quickly becomes a steam room. The beds are firm, but I did sleep ok. Food is good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Was noisy in the evening but the hotel was full of teenage girls who were staying for the AIMS Games. Very good location.
Paid online, but before checking in, the male receptionist had the audacity to be condescending and annoying. Even charged us another card fee when we had already paid online. Main didn’t care at all. Would never recommend again for overcharging us. Definitely not Tauranga’s top business hotel as they claim. Don’t believe their lies.
