Comfortable accommodation with a very relaxed vibe. The restaurant, Chapman's, is very good for families.Rooms: 4/5
Lovely renovated rooms. Heated pool and spas we spent many hours in with the kids. Attention to detail and high standards for the NZ market. Right next to Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village. Breakfast was ok but still better than other large hotels. Would definitely stay again.Rooms: 5/5
Went to the special Christmas Buffet. A really great and well prepared meal with 200 people. All the foods you would expect with the best tasting oysters there is. The manager and the table staff are to be congratulated. Back next Christmas.
A sad, bad hotel. Sad - hotel desperately needs a refurb of the bathrooms, a good scrub would help... You have to ask to get your room cleaned, you have to really persuade the restaurant manager to let you eat at 8.30pm at the overpriced and sparse buffet. They haven't got enough staff, and the ones that are there don't look like they want to be. Very few smiles, very sad. Hotel feels like it is ran on the cheap. Bad - lack of towels, staff picking at the buffet 5 minutes after I was massively overcharged for it, bathroom is just bad, value for money this place isn't cheap, no table service in the restaurant, just general impression that I am in their way. Drilling at 9am. Positives - free parking, good TV, spacious room, coffee machine. Overall, overpriced with a poor attitude to service delivery.
Terrible service and borderline racist staff. Our room wasn’t cleaned to standard at checkin found stuff from previous guests and breakfast was terrible and not inclusive. This is not a 4 star hotel and my advice is you given how expensive the hotel is, save your money and go to a more reputable and inclusive chain. Disappointing!
Lovely presented hotel. Very big room the only thing I would adversely comment on is the bathroom - it’s quite dated and still in the configuration of bath-shower combo which I personally do not like. An old scabby bath mat provided which is necessary as it super slippery without. There was quite a bit of mould on the tiles outside of the bath due to the leaking of water with the shower curtain. lovely amenities throughout. Pool and spas, gym treadmill, seated bike, rower, elliptical and weight stack. Bed was very comfortable with choices of firm or soft pillow. Great view if you’re facing the city
Avoid this hotel at all costs. We stayed in room 228 and our horrible experience is outlined below: - After entering our room, we found the previous peoples shower gel still in the shower - I wonder how good they clean - especially in a COVID world? - The next day we open up the mini fridge, it was full of old food - rotten bananas, margarine, yoghurt and milk! It smelt disgusting! - then the breakfast. Worst breakfast we have have ever had and they charge $60 for it! No basics like banana, honey etc and the eggs were not edible. We also only eat Vegetarian and when we approached Raweyn the duty manager about how they had really limited options for us, we were rudely told that they don’t advertise as being “inclusive” to dietary requirements and were told nothing could be done other than canceling our breakfast for the next morning which we cancelled. We asked for a refund on the first breakfast as we didn’t eat anything but we’re rudely told “that’s not her problem and there’s nothing that can be done”. Honestly, Rawyn the duty manager was unbelievable rude and should not be working in hospitality. She basically asked us never to come back again. We were refunded the $60 for the 2nd breakfast which we asked for as we cancelled it and never went to breakfast and were still charged for the first terrible breakfast + no one addressed our cleanliness concerns - or really seemed to care! By far the worst hotel I’ve stayed in with the worst management and I don’t recommend anyone to stay here. I do not know how they call themselves a 4 star hotel!
Still at the hotel for another night but felt compelled to write this review now. Service at the hotel has been terrible! Overpriced room rates and a terrible breakfast. The breakfast is not inclusive of dietary requirements and when complaining to the duty manager Raewyn, we were basically told it is not their problem and they do not advertise "inclusivity". I'd say avoid this hotel if you can as the price is not worth what you get and the some staff are quite rude especially the duty manager I spoke to today. Such a shame for a good location.
Had an excellent stay here. Facilities are in great condition, clean and well-thought out. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in in NZ with the above criteria. The pool had pool toys for kids and an abundance of towels. The gym was air-conditioned, with towels, water, sanitising, Bluetooth speaker, seems obvious, but apparently it’s not. Could’ve done with more equipment, but I prefer to be comfortable and feel safe during COVID while working out. Laundry facilities on site so I could wash the kids clothes without paying a fortune! Room was cosy, but also so very well thought-out, excellent form and function. I would definitely recommend staying here. I had spent a couple of nights at another hotel in Rotorua just before, and this was definitely a superior experience. The food was adequate. We only had breakfast there.
Recent one night stay in Room 601 on ground floor. Very happy with everything until in the middle of the night my wife and I were woken by a very unpleasant smell of Sulphur. The air-conditioning had obviously failed which allowed the Sulphur in the outside air to enter our room. The odour was much stronger than that which you could smell outside. Tried to sleep through it as we had a long drive ahead of us. Informed reception staff next morning who couldn't explain it but would have someone investigate. It's a shame the smell spoiled an otherwise enjoyable stay at a good hotel - would've given a much higher rating.
