Made the mistake of having a meal here a few weeks ago, I have never felt more compelled to write a bad review. 0 starts is not possible. The food was truly abysmal, barely edible and incredibility slow 1 hour wait with staggered delivery. Add to the mix the small portions and high price, you have yourself the worst experience I've had in NZ I'm from here After initially giving them the benefit of the doubt we should have just walked, waiters were nice enough and seemed embarrassed to be serving the food. We didn't eat one of the dishes but were made to pay 50% of it... AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Had a lunch meal, the food was amazing! The fish and chips were very tasty and the steak meal combo we got was excellent value for money. Highly recommend, certainly coming back another time whenever we are in Devonport.Service: 5/5
Booked a room for 3 nights with a harbour view, had read the reviews but felt it would be a manageable as it was the location we wanted. So armed with our own cleaning products we entered room 105. I wish I could upload photos to show the room as I don’t think I can express in words the level of decline that we were faced with. Peeling paint, broken blinds and curtains, dangerous electrics, mould, toilet didn’t flush, hole in the bathroom ceiling for the air vent. Most of the staff were friendly, dinner was a risk, fish curry, it had so many bones I gave up!! What was sad is that it is a beautiful old building, could be a real standout if given a tidy up!!
Terrible service. Terrible vibe. Zero smiles. First had to wait for about 15mins to give and order, while waiting at the bar. Asked for a gin and tonic, he then gave us a gin and soda..."do you have a slice of lemon?" we ask. An abrupt "No." Choice thanks, you are a bar are you not? When we found out that it was soda water and not tonic, we went back and told the lady behind the bar, she just shrugged. No new drink. No money back. She just continued on her business. Whole interior looks like a rest home, dated and smelly. Such a shame, its a great building but the current management are a pack of unhelpful money grabbers who dont care about their customers. Rude and unfriendly. Never going back. I suggest you dont bother wasting yr time or money here. The worst in Devonport sadly.
Limited menu, bit pricey but this seems to be the norm now. My battered fish came out crumbed, but it was delicious. Hubby’s steak sandwich was reportedly really good. Our drink order never turned up I am always concerned when wait staff don’t write down orders, and depend on memory only. Staff were a bit slow, but I have seen that a bit in NZ.
First table . Wouldn’t come back again. Coogee was bitter and burnt. Entrees were okay, but cold and here was accidental fri from another dish. Main dish we had salmon they didn’t have 3 other options from the menu, so had to go with that they had the salmon was okay, but carrots were frozen and like rubber, hard to cut or chew. This 2 course meal was $65 , too much for what we got.
Booked for high cream tea for this afternoon. Extremely disappoined. Walked out very poor service. There for 20 mins. no menu given. Asked at desk very curt answer was given the b ar staff will be there. Waited Noone came. Walked put they list 5 persons at $50 each. Certainly would not recommend. A few years ago when we visited totally different. Extremely bad service.
Had lunch at the restaurant. Wasn't impressed. The service was slow as not enough staff. The water bottle had mold on the lid and the glass delivered to the table was not clean. Also quite expensive for a couple of salads. Don't recommend the restaurant.Service: 1/5
The Devonshire cream tea isn’t very good! But that’s probably because I’m from Devon! The cream should be clotted and not the cheap whipped cream from a can and the cheap jam wasn’t even enough for one scone, let alone the other 3 halves. Wonderful location but avoid the tea!
Beautiful old building was nice to be able to stay is a historical place . Needed a bit of upgrades in areas but otherwise had a pleasent stay. Maybe breakfast could be included for the price u pay. I do understand money can be tight.Rooms: 3/5
