Calimero Pizza Devonport

While visiting Devonport I was wanting pizza so we came to Calimero’s due to the good reviews. The staff were very kind and attentive and the shop itself is great. We ordered the Hawaiian. Everything about the the pizza was what it should be it was piping hot, the crust was nice and crunchy like we asked for, and the toppings were fresh, however the base tomato sauce was a bit bland and there wasn’t as much sauce as I would like. I still enjoyed the pizza but wished it had a bit more flavour. I look forward to coming back to Devonport to try it again, but this first time was a bit of a let down.

To be honest, I’m a bit shocked. Although we’re not big pizza eaters Calimero has always been our go to when we do. Tonight’s pizzas we ordered 5 were disappointing. Pizza bases and cheese toppings were good but the added meats and accouterments were very very sparse. We’re talking 1 shrimp per slice on the shrimp & garlic and the Meaty Berlin would have passed as for vegan. All joking aside, I’m just sad that another great joint has resorted to such reductions, I presume in order to survive, and in doing so have placed themselves at risk.

Super fast, well-priced and delish pizza. Got the Calimero special, large size for under $16 inhouse. Worth it, would definitely return.

I've been here twice now, and this is one of the local businesses that I will support.nnThings I liked:nYou can order online.nnToppings were generous.nnPrice was reasonable.nnYou can dine in, plenty of seats available.nnThe pizza was simple but delicious. I tried the New York and The Calimero Special.nI would love to try other menus, too, in the future.nnStandard size was big enough for me alone.nnThings that needed attention or could improve on:nThe base was quite thin, and I think it would be better to be slightly thicker.nnThe toppings on the pizza keep falling off the pizza as I lift up the slice. I think this is because the toppings were too heavy, or the base was too thin to hold the weight of the toppings.nnI get them in pizza boxes, and every time the inside of the box looks like the grease from the pizza is leaking or flooding across the box and it can get messy if you leave the pizza in the box for long time. I believe this might be the grease from the cheese or other ingredients. It wouldn't be a problem if I dine in, but since I always get them takeaway, I think this is just a minor issue for people who don't want to get things messy.nnThe thickshakes were ok, but it's not something that I would go out the way to order itnnOverall, if you want something delicious and affordable, I would recommend this place.
