AVOID THIS PLACE!! Firstly, they messed my reservation. During the pickup I asked to update the return time from Dec 19, 12 pm to Dec 18, 11:59pm although am aware that wouldn't change the overall cost. I was guided and provided instructions on after hours return. Alright! I come back to drop my car at 10pm on Dec 18th and to my surprise, the airport main gate was closed and I couldn't enter the parking lot. Kind of surprised and I desperately tried to contact them on various phone numbers, No response!!! and I had to leave to catch an Intercity bus to Wellington that night. It caused me a lot of stress that evening. After all this Fiasco, I realised, where the mess up happened. the Avis staff went ahead and updated the return time to Dec 18, 12pm instead of requested 11:59pm and they all are well aware airport is closed daily from 9pm to 4am or something like that. Next day, the manager out right denied they messed up the reservation and told me I was returning the vehicle late. I asked her to check my original reservation before it was modified. Denial, Denial, Denial.!!!nnMy advice, don't trust these people. Record every conversation and every interaction to back your claims. I rented cars a zillion times but this is the first time that I have had this experience. Very incompetent staff from front desk to management.nnNext; The next morning, I get an email saying there are some chips on the windscreen and I needed to fill a claim form. I did have zero excess irrespective. However, when I checked the pictures I took before driving the car on the day of rental, I already see some chips. I shared the same pictures via email and never got any response back after that.nnA week later I call them to follow up. No response, I call them again and a lady picks up and says there are additional chips during my rental. Alright! I asked for more details and pictures. She said she will follow up with pictures and details of those additional chips and that never happened. Also, I wonder, if they failed to repair the chips that are already existing, even if there are new chips, are they allowed to charge multiple times on each subsequent rentals? Especially windshield as existing cracks/chips can make it easy for damage to spread further. It's glass!!!!nnBeware! They will make false claims and charge existing damage on your card if you don't take pictures and prove the damage is already existing. If you unfortunately, end up renting with this company, make sure to take many pictures and videos. Or you will be scammed. They probably are committing insurance fraud too.
Was discriminated against when we tried to rent a car because of the way I look. At first we were told it was because other rentals had called them and complained. I knew that was a lie because i’ve only ever rented from one other place, and when we called him he told us there was nothing wrong with the van we had previously rented and he had. not flagged us. The lady then said “oh actually i’m allowed to refuse service” and when i asked why she said “i’m just not very comfortable renting a car to you” while looking me up and down with a look that i was not comfortable with at all. So first she blatantly lies to my face, and then she changes her words and makes me feel unwanted in my own country. When I first made my booking the day before, everything was fine, but as soon as i walk in they want to refuse me? I’m a Māori woman with braids and the service i received was appalling. For a company that seems to praise their appreciation for the Māori culture that Rotorua is surrounded by, I am very confused and angry about the way I was discriminated against, ESPECIALLY, during the hard time Māori are already facing.
I think the chaps there are doing a decent job.nnDue to multiple cancelled flights, i had to extend my car rental. All were done swiftly without fuss.nnExcept for an incident where my car was wrongly issued to another person, and i had to wait 30 mins for him to drive it back, all else was good.nnServed by the dark skinned lady mostly. Lovely lady. Polite and helpful.
Friendly staff, but what a horrible vehicle! MG 2.0 Turbo. Too much lag in the transmission. Turbo surge really unpredictable. Display options all over the place. Fingers crossed I never ever have to drive one of those again. Fingers crossed for a Toyota Corolla next time...basic but easy and predictable.
Had a very horrible experience today. My family was treated as if they were criminals when wanting to rent a car. Never been discriminated against the way we were today.
