Car smelt on pick up, returned less than 24 hours later with no problems, only for a few days later to receive a $280 charge on my card with no explanation/communication. Tried to ring through to the branch but could not get through, kept getting told by customer services that it was a misc charge and to wait 72 hours. Waited 72 hours however was still getting nowhere. Finally nearly a week later we got through to the branch to be told it was a vomit charge, which was not correct and they hadn't even advised us, most likely the people who had the car before us, that they would be charging this. In the meantime of this happening I had another $300 taken off my card, again they couldn't tell me what this was for. Finally got told it was a pending charge and would be cancelled, and that we would be refunded the vomit charge, nearly 2 weeks later I finally received my money back. A very tedious and long process for a 22 hour car rental that was supposed to be good value.
Probably the most unfriendly ladies I’ve met during our trip through NZ. It is obvious that you disturb them and they are not interested at all in what you need or expect. Booking voucher? They don’t care and don’t want to see it. But instead they insist of charging you for the 2nd driver although it was included in the booking voucher. Most unpleasant experience! Try to avoid Nelson Airport as pickup station.
Impossible to get through to the Avis Nelson branch. Always goes to the call centre overseas and they give you the same number that is on google which leads back to call centre!! Very frustrating trying to follow up lost property item. Looking at the reviews online here this is not a one off issue.
Really disappointed in Avis Nelson, I contacted them as soon as I landed in Auckland to report I had left something valuable in the car. Nobody answered the phone for three days. When I finally managed to talk to a person, they said nothing was found in the car, which is impossible--as the item was left in the locked car ready for cleaning. I used the email service and even friends of Nelson to go and try fetching the item. Avis spent the next 2 weeks sending me automated notifications that were impersonal, ineffective and like Groundhog Day. I responded to the emails, and they continued to send me the same automated email, of no consequence. If you try and find a head office number for Avis NZ, good luck. Avis for me historically was always an upmarket and trustworthy company, but I don't feel that service is still there today.
I drop off car there. It was easy find. Signs led me to parking lot. Office was closed. I put key in drop-off box.
