We stayed for four nights and travelled from Ayr. When we booked the hotel, I clearly mentioned that we would be arriving after midnight. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed, and we arrived around 4:00am. I understand this is not an ideal time, but the delay was beyond our control.nnWhen we arrived, there was no one at the hotel. We called the number provided, which said staff would always be available when needed. A staff member named Tim arrived about 30 minutes later. However, his attitude was very disappointing. He locked the reception doors loudly, as if we were doing something wrong, and asked me to come inside waving his fingers like I am his slave or maybe dog. He threw the papers that needed to be signed and also tossed the room keys across the counter.nnThe place itself is nice and quiet, but the customer service we received from Tim was very rude and unprofessional. It made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Because of this experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
Fantastic staff.nDropped in without a reservation on a very busy Christmas lunch. Poor staff were flat out. Although there was some delay with our meals understandable we were given free drinks.nMeals were excellent. Staff hard working. Can recommend.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I was at the “Willy.” Friends of ours had suggested somewhere child‑friendly, so we booked a table. As it turned out, they had a last‑minute child‑related hiccup and couldn’t make it. The staff didn’t miss a beat — happily reseated us at a smaller booth without fuss.nnIt was obvious the venue was short‑staffed, but full credit to the team: polite, efficient, and keeping their cool under pressure. The online menu and the QR code at the table didn’t match the actual menu now fixed, it seems, and a few dishes were unavailable. With the range on offer, though, it wasn’t hard to find alternatives.nnDrinks were well‑priced and came out quickly — impressive given the circumstances. We started with lemon pepper calamari and karaage chicken, both spot‑on. For mains, I had the grilled pork cutlet served blushing, as requested — not a common ask in pub kitchens and my wife went for the chicken schnitzel. Meals were swift, generous, and well prepared.nnThe only real let‑down is the decor. Torn seat coverings, burn marks on tables — the place is tired and overdue for some love from ALH.nnThat said, the food and service more than carried the night. A solid pub feed, delivered by a team who clearly care. We’ll be back.
Went in for dinner last night with my parents and my partner, and I must say—it was a beautiful experience.nService was quick and very efficient. I’ve popped in a couple of times before just for a quick drink, but this was my first time trying the food—and it did not disappoint!nThe staff were absolutely amazing and made us feel very welcome.nWill definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend!
Don't order the steak if you like 'well done'. I ordered 'well done' but I asked for 'very well done' so I expected it to be cooked. The steak was still a bit pink inside. I like my steak cooked ALL the way through, this wasn't.
