I’ve been going to the Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre since September 2025, and it’s a fantastic place to start a fitness journey. The facility is always clean, well organised, and inclusive, with a warm team who make you feel very welcome.nnMy membership is excellent value as it includes the gym gym with central air conditioning also has windows and double doors that can open up for air ventilation, swimming pools, and spa pools, along with all the land and water based classes. I’ve particularly enjoyed the Hybrid 60, Movement Matter, and the Aqua Aerobics sessions, but my favourite parts are definitely using the rowing machine, the treadmill, and doing laps in the pool.
My son was injured by the hydroslide and when I let the staff know that they should check for damage on the slide, I was met with a negative response and no empathy. Rules are great for adults but kids dont read them guys. Work it out.
The best local gym. Gym equipment is top notch and I can always get a lane in the lap pool. Friendly staff make it great a place to workout.
Had our nephews birthday here! First whanau to hire out the newly developed area out the front! Catered for our needs. Bbq also provided by the centre.. Should definitely consider hiring out tables, chairs and gazebo raising the hirage fee of course for this area to prevent whanau back and forth trips to bring thier own. Gardens are lovely touch to the atmosphere whanau could possibly use these for decorating purposes ie: dinosaur/fairies theme putting dinosaurs/ fairies in there to vamp up the theme the choices are limitless. Kids loved being able to go swimming with their birthday pass bands all day but should be able to pay that little extra for hydroslide access. Another idea would be to put the tables together at the end so they can be used as one instead two seperate, just makes easier setting up for functions. Overall great experience for first timers.nHere are some pics i took whilst we were here.
Good gym considering the small size, casual entry which is ideal when traveling through, lots of pool options, small cafe, staff reasonably friendly, easy parking
