Story

Watergate Restaurant & Lounge Bar is located in the heart of Port Douglas, at the corner of Grant and Macrossan Street, behind Rotary Park. Enter down the flame lit path from Macrossan Street to find the perfect hidden gem for lunch, dinner, tapas or a mouth-watering cocktail.

The restaurant seats up to 120 guests with both indoor sections and outdoor (under cover) dining decks surrounded by lush tropical gardens and tranquil flames.

The cuisine is Modern Australian, with an asian twist, encapsulating our modern tropical lifestyle. Our Executive Chef sources fresh, seasonal produce to prepare innovative and enticing dishes, which reflect contemporary trends in Australasian cooking.

Watergate also has a modern well appointed bar and extensive lounge area, ideal for cocktails at sunset, or tapas and a bottle of wine… The perfect way to unwind after a busy week or eventful day. The lounge is a great place to meet friends, enjoy pre-dinner drinks or indulge in desserts and coffee to finish off your evening.

We had lunch here, and the food was really good. My favourites were the prawn starter and the Spanish Mackerel main.nnAs we were early, the place was quiet and service was fairly quick. It's quite the beautiful restaurant too, well shaded from the outside by lots of greenery.
Absolutely love this place. From the fire torches at you walk in, to the bright umbrellas, beautiful bar and greenery, it’s a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very switched on and attentive and food was scrumptious. For a Monday night it was very busy too. Will definitely return.
Watergate never disappoints!nWe have dined here a few times over the years.nOn our most recent visit to Port Douglas, we loved the food and service so much, we dined there twice! :-nWe also managed to get the same quiet perfect table on both occasions.nThe service is absolutely fantastic and David manages his wonderful team extremely well.nJustin, Valentina and Sharon were some of the professional and hard working staff that we also met.nI will let the photos of the fantastic food speak for themselves!nDo make sure you ask for a break between the courses if you want one as the food can come a little bit too quickly.nThere is also a big cocktail bar for those that fancy a drink before or after their meal.nWhen in Port Douglas, don't miss the opportunity to dine at one of the town's best restaurants.nThanks once again David for a top notch dining experience.nWe will be back again soon!
A very busy place but in a good way. Food was fabulous and the atmosphere also - comfortable lounge on arrival and a lovely table, outdoor with privacy. A great ambiance. And the food was so good - recommend the poached Spanish Mackerel. And the cocktails. Oh - definitely the panna cotta.
Absolutely magnificent experience!nThe atmosphere and set-up was amazing!nThe food from dinner and lounge menu is exceptional!nThe cocktails were above and beyond!nThe gentleman serving us made us feel like we were the only ones in the room, we left speechless with the overall experience!nnThe only place in Port Douglas that you'll get money for value experience!nThe effort to create the food and cocktails menu is outstanding and we were shocked that we didn't find this hidden gem earlier!nnAny self-respecting person must give this place a try!nScotch n cigars cocktail is a must try!
