Came to the bike park with 2 kids. Really good area for them to practice with traffic lights and a roundabout. Even has a small off road trail. A few nice shaded areas to watch the kids from but the road area is quite exposed to the sun. Suitable for ages 1 to 10 yrs with bikes and scooters. Helpful having a bike repair station too with tools and air pump.

This place has very fond memories for me and was lovely to visit while in Palmerston North for Christmas. Everything looks great, except the birds in the prison like cages. Seeing the Cockatoos alone in concrete cells, one in a dirt corner digging a hole, obviously trying to escape, made me cry. Now I live in Australia, where it is a joy to see these intelligent, social birds in the wild. Keeping them in such terrible conditions for people to 'look at' is archaic and cruel. I will be doing all I can to bring this issue up until you do something about it. I also witnessed a woman kicking a duck with one leg and yelled at her to stop! Are there people in Palmerston North who CARE about these birds? If so PLEASE, take action! Also sad to see the garden for the Blind and Deaf gone. A very mixed visit.

Kids love the upgraded junior playground as well as the added bike track. There are not a lot of park tables and benches around the playground so better bring a picnic rug if planning on a picnic. There are some available near the aviaries though. Nature trail is also a good place to take the kids to learn something about nature, trees and birds around the area. The birds are getting old though. Don't miss going to the conservatory too to see a range plants usually found only in the tropics.

Yeah it's cool that we have this place but it's lame that every public music event in Palmerston North has to be generic inoffensive jazz and the gardens just have this boring old lady vibe. The birds are cool and they playground has heaps of great stuff like those satellite dish echo things where you talk into the tube and you can hear the other person from across the park, and the giant hamster wheels are mean but I was always too scared to do the full hand stand 360. I actually kind of feel sorry for the birds now that I think of it.

I loved sharing the rose garden and cafe experience with a friend... it's a pity the bird enclosures haven't been kept up to the standard they were when I lived in Palmy... my Dad would be sad to see the state they are in. The glasshouse looks wonderful, and the pathed walkway is a great idea. Overall a wonderful experience that brought back good memories from times past when I spent many hours there ☺☺☺
