We took the day long tour of the Daintree rainforest out of Port Douglas. Kerry was our guide and I can honestly say he ensured we had an excellent day. He had fantastic local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble for him. A walk in the woods will never look the same again. It was a very eventful day with a great lunch and a bit of croc spotting thrown in for good measure. I recommend you take the tour and be prepared for a full and fascinating day.

My wife and I tried 2 different reef cruises with Calypso and had a wonderful time on both. The first trip was to the outer reef and on the way out we stopped to watch a couple of humpback whales. We dived a 3 different locations and the coral and fish life was really spectacular. All of the snorkelling gear was provided and the staff were really helpful. Our 2nd trip was to the Lowe Isles where we snorkelled in shallower water but were still able to see great coral, tropical fish and even a few turtles. We went ashore on the island and were able to wander around the lighthouse and other buildings. We had a fabulous lunch and then a gentle cruise back to Port Douglas. Another great day!

Dangerous, Uneducated staff/crew My husband and I took a dive trip with Calypso out of Port Douglas in early June. During the trip, my husband and I were snorkeling at the 2nd dive site when I felt a jellyfish sting along my lip and cheek. I had heard jellyfish stings in this region could be dangerous, but when I alerted some of the crew, they shrugged it off as an unfortunate occurrence. About 30 minutes later, I begin to have pain and tightness in my back and hips. Soon after, I began to vomit anything I tried to eat or drink. I became distraught about the pain and vomiting I was experiencing, unsure about what was going on. When the captain became aware of my situation, he asked me some questions about my symptoms. He told me he didn’t think I was having a reaction to the jellyfish sting because I was not “writhing on the floor in pain”. He told me my vomiting was a result of sea sickness (even though the water was totally flat). I spent 4+ hours on the boat in pain, unable to keep anything down. Even when I asked them to consult a doctor onshore, the captain said the doctor was not concerned with my symptoms and it was not an emergency. It turns out after being admitted to the ER later that night, I was a victim of a venomous box jellyfish sting and Irukanji syndrome, which has been deadly in some cases. I went through hours of pain, sweating, and vomiting after the crew of Calypso convinced me I was not exhibiting any serious symptoms. After making them aware of their error, the director of the company refused to acknowledge any error on their part. This whole experience ruined not only my day on the reef, but left me feeling upset, angry, and emotional. This company demonstrated a lack of knowledge about health and safety concerns about snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. There were multiple opportunities for Calypso to step in and get me the necessary medical attention to minimize my pain and suffering. We the clients are not educated on the symptoms of a life threatening box jellyfish sting, and Calypso’s staff most definitely should be.

ATTENTION SENIORS Be advised this company does not allow even experienced SCUBA divers over 60 to dive. I'm just 69 years young, a certified, experienced SCUBA diver in very good health. I was not allowed to dive even as an "Intro-supervised dive". If it's a bucket list wish to dive the Great Barrier Reef, DON'T BOOK WITH CALYPSO. Check ahead with other companies before booking Note to reply by Calypso - The only medication I take is Lipitor (a statin). I mentioned this to one of the dive instructors to make sure he knew what it was, he told me he knew of it as he took it himself.

My day spent on the Reef with my family, aboard a Calypso dive boat is one of my cherished memories. The skipper chatted to me and the instructors were patient with my first attempt at scuba diving. Those aboard not swimming, had the choice of snorkelling or seeing the multi-coloured coral and tropical marine life through a glass bottomed boat and my lunch and snacks were freshly sourced by this family owned Company. Their rainforest adventure looks just the thing for my next holiday in Port Douglas.
