Town Hall Station

Story

Town Hall railway station is a heritage-listed underground commuter rail station located in the centre of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. The stationed opened on 28 February 1932 and is named after the Town Hall that is located directly above the station. The station provides a direct link to the Sydney Airport international and domestic stations.HistoryThe station is built on the site of Sydney's earliest colonial cemetery, the Old Sydney Burial Ground. In 2008, part of this cemetery was being excavated from under the Town Hall. The station opened on 28 February 1932 and was built with six platforms, which were split over two levels with three platforms on each level. When the station opened, only four of the platforms were in use: platforms 1, 2 and 3 on the upper level and platform 6, served by escalators, on the lower level. The other two platforms were built in preparation for a proposed western suburbs line from the city to Gladesville, as envisaged under the Bradfield scheme. This line was never built, and the platforms (4 and 5) remained disused until incorporated into the Eastern Suburbs line when it opened in June 1979.

Nice and busy area. Live during night as well. A must visit circle if you’re in Sydney.
Lovely place to be in the evening as it's all lit up. Lot's of eateries, pub's and bars. You can really enjoy a great evening.
Seating area is away from the crowds. Chargers on the walls. Plenty of seats. Comfortable space is available, underneath George St and on the left of Macpac.
We had trolleys to get to the airport. The airport train T8 was on Platform 6 which is two levels below the ground level. But both the escalators and the elevator lift was under construction the same time. and we had to take the stairs down two levels with our trolleys. This made absolutely zero sense to have both of them out of order at the same time. Way to improve accessibility.
Very nice vibe of the place. Lots of brands for shopping available. Vintage style place.nBit crowded place.
