Located in Box Hill, on the Carrington Road strip, Tien Dat was the first Vietnamese restaurant in Box Hill, serving many traditional dishes that are largely influenced by the flavours of North Vietnam with also the spicy tastes from the south!

Tien Dat first opened in 1983 with a still ongoing legacy for being the freshest tasting Vietnamese food in Melbournes Eastern Suburbs and maintaining the reputation as one of the bustling ‘go to’ places for fresh and elegant Vietnamese food.

Popular dishes included Pho (beef noodle soup), Bun (rice vermicelli), Banh Xeo (Viettnamese crepe), Cha Gio (spring rolls), Goi Cuon (rice paper rolls); and the even popular tender spicy salted peppered squid.

Bookings are essential, particularly Fridays and Saturdays. Takeaway service is also available.

Tien Dat is a fully licensed (BYO WINE ONLY) restaurant with 3 dining areas: upstairs, downstairs and an outdoor area which is sheltered and heated.

The restaurant has been featured in various news articles, the most recent being - Age Cheap Eats Guide 2010 - 3/3 Stars.

I come for the prawn crackers. And then ALL the other food. You just can't go wrong here: the food is fantastic, the prices are very reasonable (barely anything over $30, plenty of sub $20 choices) and the service is good, not perfect but good enough. You won't be waiting forever for your meals either, despite it being busy. Newly renovated too! Looks very pretty.

Last time I went to this restaurant over a year ago it was excellent. However, since the renovation I think the service, quality of food and value for money have all dropped. The food we ordered was overall bland, and the prawn dish tasted fishy and unfresh. We also ordered a dish for takeaway at the end for a family member who couldn't make it. This was never added to the order, and when we asked for it we were told bluntly that the kitchen was never asked to make it without apology. I feel that this place has gotten a little too big for their boots, and if nothing changes they will eventually lose the good reputation they are riding on currently.

Love the food. Have been a customer for many years. However was so disappointed with the service tonight. It took an hour for the main meals to be served. They seem to have new staff who have no idea what they are doing. I hope the renovation does not change the great reputation of this restaurant. You would think that after such bad service management would have offered a complimentary coffee or desert. Although the food was great the servings have become smaller. Please fix whatever is not working what a shame it would be to wreck the reputation of this restaurant that so many have loved for so many years

Love this place. Amazing food. Nicely renovated but really could use some soundproofing on walls. Gets very noisy!

So, I walked into the restaurant feeling the magnificent ambience on this place. It’s well furnished, great design and overall great look. But, within 30 seconds of being in the restaurant my family and I were greeted with utter disrespect, this left us disturbed and uneasy. The food was great but the pho was debatable, their beef in the other meals was amazing. So in conclusion, the food was great but wasn’t well enjoyed as service wasn’t amazing.
