Located in Box Hill, on the Carrington Road strip, Tien Dat was the first Vietnamese restaurant in Box Hill, serving many traditional dishes that are largely influenced by the flavours of North Vietnam with also the spicy tastes from the south!

Tien Dat first opened in 1983 with a still ongoing legacy for being the freshest tasting Vietnamese food in Melbournes Eastern Suburbs and maintaining the reputation as one of the bustling ‘go to’ places for fresh and elegant Vietnamese food.

Popular dishes included Pho (beef noodle soup), Bun (rice vermicelli), Banh Xeo (Viettnamese crepe), Cha Gio (spring rolls), Goi Cuon (rice paper rolls); and the even popular tender spicy salted peppered squid.

Bookings are essential, particularly Fridays and Saturdays. Takeaway service is also available.

Tien Dat is a fully licensed (BYO WINE ONLY) restaurant with 3 dining areas: upstairs, downstairs and an outdoor area which is sheltered and heated.

The restaurant has been featured in various news articles, the most recent being - Age Cheap Eats Guide 2010 - 3/3 Stars.

Priced above the standard range for viet food. It was a bustling Saturday dinner service, so the food came after ~30 mins.nThe food was mediocre, the portion was big, but many other competitors offer more, better, for less.nThe table wasn’t fully clean and some people will find the seating positions intimately close with strangers.
Bun bo hue is not very flavorful, but its not bad. I also had the banh xeo, one of the best one i have ever had in melbourne. Tomato rice and beed was good, the beef was really tender. Hu tieu was okay too. Overall food was good mostly ranging from 20-30 per dish. Will come back to try more dishes on the menu
Came here with friends for lunch. Had the Pho and Seafood noodle soup in chicken broth. Portions were big, and there's no MSG in the soup. The place is very clean. Will definitely return.nCame here a second time to have the broken rice. Paid $19.80. Overall, the different components tasted good, except for the grilled pork. It wasn't piping hot when served. It must have been precooked. As you can see in the photo, it was unevenly cooked.
I came across Tien Dat when looking for a Vietnamese restaurant in the area. The decor of the place was pleasant and modern. The staff were nice. I noticed a few of the dishes on the menu were on the pricier side for a Vietnamese restaurant. I had the Bun Bo Hue, which had a tasty broth. I had an all-around good experience and would come back.
Very good restaurant! You can find thai cuisines as well here! Yummy yummy
