Story

Adelaide's best burger & booze bar!

The Taxpayer started as a memory for a lost friend, a best mate and a sad day. Owners Frank and Kristian determined that all they did in their respective businesses was work and never saw their mates decided they would buy a bar, a hobby and a good time for them and their mates. Over 8 months of trial and error they decided it was time to put all that learning into play and start treating the place as a business and not a playground.

The Taxpayer was reinvented as the Taxpayer Burger and Booze Bar. It’s a bar that does good food with class and care along side some great drinks.

Situated in the heart of Adelaide opposite the redeveloped Victoria Sq between Franklin St and Grote St. If you miss the 30 something outdoor seats with views of Vic Square then a massive lit sign above the double doors will give away its location.

Inside you will find a balance of concrete, recycled timber, metal and more…. Its cool but not too much. Its casual but sophisticated. And its simple as the tag line suggests, its burgers and booze. Oh and music with live entertainment and DJ’s on Friday and Saturday nights until late.

There are teasers on the menu with plenty to share and lots of burgers all named after celebrity Tax Evaders, sides include French fries three ways, chips and gravy and even a dessert burger.

And what to drink with your burger? A glass of French for $15, a New Zealand Pinot or an Adelaide Hills Sav Blanc? Or simply a crafty schooner or two from Thunder Road Brewery - Australia’s Best Medium Size Brewery.

And, yes, there are cocktails, a list of them from classics to unusual and they are good, in fact bloody good and the music, well that pumps along too. The waiters and bar staff are relaxed and know their stuff dressed in all ninja black outfits with denim and leather aprons so you can spot them in the crowed.

Do…consider ordering a burger and some roasted jalapeno poppers

Don’t… come here if you’re on a diet or want a romantic quiet table.

Dish…. The Sophia Lauren is a thing of beauty and the Wesley Snipes will blow your mind

Vibe…. All sorts, with a few hipsters, local oldies, young executives and food tourists dropping by.

Soft drinks only for a meeting but this looks like a great place for a burger and a beer.
Mozarella, tomatoes and jalapenoes gave a nice unique touch to this all round good burger! Nice and filling as well. Bun and patty were burnt a little bit though...
Great place. Occasionally grumpy manager, but regular staff all super friendly. The "Heidi Fleiss" Burger is hands-down the best vegetarian burger I've ever had by a long shot. The way the Haloumi and Mushroom works together to make the best vegetarian faux-meat patty is outstanding. Then, The "Al Capone" is reliably excellent.
Fantastic burgers at a reasonable price. Helps to book ahead for lunch during the week as it is often busy.
Burgers and chips OK but not my favourite in town. Service a little chaotic but it was the busy lunch hour. Love the location though, great to sit outside on a sunny day
Great burgers, friendly service. Can be long wait times during busy periods but generally very reasonable. So yum!!!
Great food, service and atmosphere. The though and tie in of the name is great. Happy hour drink specials are great and there is a large cocktail menu. Toilets are super charming too. Small venue that does get a bit noisy, but aside from that its a top place to have dinner or lunch whilst in ghe city.
Delicious burgers, some of the best I've had. The sliders are great! Awesome beers, friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!
Been to this place twice now and its gone down. Burgers were tiny and seem to be a lot less than last time. So disappointing for the price . it wasn't busy as expected and I guess that is a reflection of the serving size. Hard to recommend due to cost and size. 2017 update. Gone down hill. Burnt burger bun, dry and inspiring. I tried.
Great location. Very good service. Good burgers but not the best.
