The Standard Hotel has been a favourite hangout space with our colleagues, every time we visit Melbourne.  In fact my fondest memory is my first (& only) experiences in trying kangaroo meat.  More so it’s had become a tradition that any newbie from our office visiting Standard Hotel for the first time we order the Kangaroo steak on their behalf & offer then (except when they are Vegetarian).

But apart from that, the food & drinks here are amazing, thought it’s the typical pub fare.  Apart from the appetisers, the mains are pretty good as well.  A must visit if you are near Fitzroy and in need of some good food & wonderful beer, served in a rustic ambiance.

One of Melbourne's best kept secrets. Such a homely pub tucked away in the backsteets of Fitzroy.
Food is solid and the bar staff are nice.

Surprisingly great pub food. The burger was top notch. The chips were very impressive. There's Guinness on tap too. Giddy up.

I just love this place! The crowd is trendy and interesting. The service is superb: they are fast and courteous even with all the crowd they get during peak times. The food is delicious and well served. They are careful enough to provide a couvert (bread and butter) while you are waiting. The price is going up and the place is no longer as affordable as it was int he past.  I am a customer of 15+ years and still loyal despite the price which now lead me to focus on beer during my visits. If you live in Melbourne, it is worth to try this one. If you are a visitor and looking to try a REAL pub experience, don't miss this opportunity. It is kind of difficult to find but worth the search. There is plenty of sitting space inside and even more in the BEAUTIFUL (hidden) beer garden at the back!

Probably the nicest pub in Fitzroy. Good, friendly crowd, fast service, good food and not to pricey. The beer garden is awesome and super cozy. However, I do recommend booking a table if you want to eat here with more than 2 people as it does get extremely busy
