The Pier Hotel is situated 2.5km from the town centre, offering a quiet retreat with magnificent views. The bar, with historical photographs and cosy open fire, has been patronised for over a century by the whaling and fishing fleets.

Story

An historic hotel with modern amenities, The Pier Hotel was first built in circa 1885. This cozy seaside hotel still retains the appearance, charm and atmosphere of yesteryear - but houses all the mod cons of today! A thorough refurbishment complements the old with the new.

The site is superb and undoubtedly the best outlook in Kaikoura, with panoramic vistas of the Kaikoura Ranges and sweeping views of Ingals’ Bay from the bar, balcony and restaurant . Come and see for yourself.

Great local feel but lots of tourists; always busy. A popular dinner place as the food is fantastic. The seagulls were everywhere though, but it kinda added to the character. The views over Kaikoura Ranges were great, and there is some outdoor seating which is usually always taken up. The bathrooms are strange though, the females get a room in the building, the men get an outhouse with a sink just about outside.

Great location to stay. Food is outstanding. Both the steak and calamari were good. Staff are excellent. Nothing is a problem. Accommodation is very comfortable.

Great little pub by the ocean. Good menu, thoroughly enjoyed the crayfish, if only it were bigger lol 😆 small play area which kept the young children Occupied while waiting for our meals. They also had a good selection of beers on tap. Dessert was nice too

Great range of local Kaikoura beers and other beers on tap. Food is great as well! Playground outside for the kids. Great place for a hot summers afternoon

They are in a good location however the sign outside and the menu offer half crayfish meals for $45.00 however when we were served the lady said they are only selling whole crayfish for 65.00. That's false advertising. Not the right thing to do.
