Date: 30/06/25nTime:6:00pm attended the northern epping emergency departmentnnReport:nPlease read, called the MAC team yesterday evening due to decreased fetal movement being 28 weeks pregnant and tested positive for covid was advised to attend the northern emergency department And that the Mac team would come and get me from the emergency department at the northern to assess myself and baby. Arrived around 6:00pm. Spoke to the first triage nurse regarding my symptoms, shortness of breathing, vision changes, delayed fetal movements with baby, and stomach cramps and not feeling well at all the nurse then told us to wait after she checked blood pressure and heart rate. After 1 hour my Name was called spoke with another triage nurse they had given me a red wrist band and we had changed facial masks due to testing positive for covid we were told then to wait in the Emergency department area it appeared things seemed to be moving well thats what i was expecting although we continued to wait. At Around 9:20pm noticed baby movements were still decreased and having sharp stomach cramping and feeling lightheadness. My partner went to the triage nurses station while I waited seating as during this time I was feeling very unwell. My partner spoke with a nurse she had curly blonde hair and was wearing glasses. She then said she will come and see me moments after she was shouting my name I was standing in the hallway and let her know im having pains in my stomach and I am not feeling well. Nurse had spoken very rough to me and mentioned well the mac team want you here to be assessed and it's a 7 hour wait and mentioned something about I won't be getting any special treatment she had me lost for words and didn't allow me to continue in explaining what's happening and the fact they knew there has been a decrease in fetal movement how can that be categorised as a 7 hour wait it was appalling to be spoken like this especially being heavily pregnant the nurse also had cause emotional distress for myself and had me in tears with no other option but to wait wich could have put me and baby at a life threatening risks. At around 9:40pm myself and my partner left and drove straight to the mercy health for women where we received the care we needed immediately and baby and myself were checked. I am disgusted how I was treated especially being heavily pregnant and came to the emergency department at the northern reaching out for help. Please if anyone is pregnant listen to your intuition and don't settle for a 7 hour wait as fetal decrease movements should always be taken very serious. It has now painted a very negative picture of the northern given it was my first time experience going to the emergency department I'm am still in shock on how a nurse can treat there patient and not take it seriously like why do a job like that I am also have been in the health care sector for Years you do not treat people like this members of the public were also in shock and reccomended myself to even call the ambulance or go to another Ed they also had concerns for myself so I had to go reach out for help somewhere else they left me with no choice.
I lost both my parents at this hospital so I'm scarred, I also lost my mother inlaw here.nI gave birth to my daughter here 20 years ago which was a pleasant stay.nWas there about a month ago and the patient care has improved so much the only downside to the Northern is that the Emergency department needs a desperate upgrade.nDespite the upgrade issue Northern is a good hospital.
I want to begin by commending the nurses and front-of-house staff. They were kind, patient, and reassuring throughout the experience. Despite the overwhelming demand, they did everything they could, and I truly appreciate their efforts.nnThat said, I would caution anyone experiencing a serious emergency to call an ambulance to ensure timely care. I attended the emergency department with severe full-body muscle pain and difficulty standing, and unfortunately, the total time spent waiting was over seven hours—from 8:00pm to 3:00am.nnThe initial 1–2 hour wait to see a triage nurse was understandable given how busy it was. However, after that point, the experience became frustrating. I waited more than four hours for blood test results, during which I received no further pain relief or comfort, despite being visibly distressed. In the end, I was sent home without a clear diagnosis and with no additional testing, despite raising concerns about the possibility of toxic shock syndrome.nnThroughout the night, I noticed that several other patients—many under the influence from a Saturday night out—were seen before me, even though I had been waiting for hours and was in obvious pain.nnNonetheless, I want to again acknowledge the professionalism of the reception staff. They were consistently courteous, checked in with me when asked, and helped keep my spirits up despite being unable to offer medical assistance. Their attitude was a welcome change from past emergency room experiences.
Wait time to see a doctor and be treated was excessively long. But then that is to be expected with a very large number of sick people, especially in winter, and the impossibility of accurate triage without an extensive diagnosis. Nevertheless the hospital staff: nurses; doctors; administration, all were exceptionally kind, gentle and patient. I would not have been surprised to find them stressed out but they managed to deal with the pressures exceptionally well. And for us this was a real comfort.
My father was in for an operation, he was in ward 18 and ward 6. The staff and facilities in ward 18 was amazing, staff were so sweet and helpful. Ward 6 was a little older and the staff were a little cold but still nice.nnOur experience overall was quite a positive one, the food wasn't the best, quite cold for each meal but thats not a big deal.nnThe emergency department here can get VERY busy and you could have an unpleasant experience waiting many hours, but unfortunately this is the reality due to the high demand and pressure on the hospital.
