My father was in for an operation, he was in ward 18 and ward 6. The staff and facilities in ward 18 was amazing, staff were so sweet and helpful. Ward 6 was a little older and the staff were a little cold but still nice.nnOur experience overall was quite a positive one, the food wasn't the best, quite cold for each meal but thats not a big deal.nnThe emergency department here can get VERY busy and you could have an unpleasant experience waiting many hours, but unfortunately this is the reality due to the high demand and pressure on the hospital.
The doctors provide good quality care and communicate very effectively with family. The nurses work hard on the ward and generally respond in a timely manner to patient needs. However, I find it ridiculous that an elderly person is either given half the cutlery they need to eat or they are given flat wood cutlery to eat with...surely the government can afford to source some proper utensils for the hospital. Have you ever tried to eat soup with a flat wooden spoon? What a joke!
Maternity wards 10, 11, MAC and ED only.nOn multiple occasions throughout pregnancy I used the services at Northern Health. Incredibly positive experiences throughout. In ED my concerns were taken seriously and I was reviewed and admitted for overnight observation to the maternity ward. Scans were done the next morning as it was a weekend. MAC is an amazing service for any patient during their pregnancy, I called them and visited MAC for small or big concerns which were taken seriously. The growth scans and ultrasounds done in MAC made it very easy in contrast to organising in the community. During labour, the midwifes respected my wishes and supported me and my family during birth with our preferences. The staff were experienced and escalated care appropriately in birth suite. Post recovery was excellent in the maternity ward, food was freshly cooked and nutritious. My husband could stay overnight as I had a private room with an additional bed that converted to a couch and we were supported and educated along the way. We did not feel pressured or uncomfortable during our stay, the staff cared for my child and I like their own family. We had no visitor restrictions. Staff encouraged my independence whilst offering support as needed. I will be having my future children at this hospital. Highly recommend.
With a serious condition that had been diagnosed by my GP I was fast tracked to the Short Stay Unit very quickly, CT scan arranged and admitted to ICU within a few hours.nnAfter a couple of days in ICU I was transferred to a ward.nThe staff in all of these areas did a fantastic job and need to be congratulated.nnAs well as the other staff working hard behind the scenes kitchen, cleaners, orderlies etc.nnI was in great hands and felt at ease that I was getting the best care I could hope for.nnMuch appreciated and a huge thanks to all.
This has been the worst emergency medical experience I’ve ever had. I waited in the emergency room for over 10 hours with no results, wasting time and receiving no medical assistance—just lying there and sleeping. Repeated inquiries were useless, as the nurses had no authority to do anything and could only wait for the doctor. At first, one doctor kindly provided an initial assessment, but after their shift ended, no other doctor appeared. I waited until early morning with no outcome. The entire experience was anxiety-inducing and infuriating, with the nurses showing no initiative and having a poor attitude throughout.
