I had a few cocktails this night Mmm they were yummy hehe The publicans were the nicest most welcoming folk who entertained us all night a lovely place to be on a cold Saturday night in Hobart town! Do drop in support the locals we will return.
Live music. Great food. The owner was very nice. I asked about the old pubs and she gave me a book to read about the old pubs of Hobart whilst having dinner. Built in 1846 and has always been a pub.. Very authentically old pub..
Although we didn't eat, the drinks, atmosphere, live jazz, friendly locals and beautiful art made it a brilliant evening. My friends and I played some cards while enjoying the wonderful live jazz on show and then had a few games of pool. The pub is LGBTQ friendly AND is conscientious of the environment. I wish I lived in Hobart just to have the Duke as a local.
Hobart's best kept secret. Funky pub, host is fabulous. Great food and live blues music. Felt like a local.
Walking through a windy and cold Hobart Summer evening, I'd pretty much given up on a nice beer and some warmth. Luck had me looking up at a corner and reading the magic words "Live Music". I had a great bluesy/jazzy evening afterwards. The band supported by the landlady herself where professional and enthusiastic. The Beer was very good as well. Beware the hoppy IPA though, that's really hoppy. Can't talk about the food yet, but I'll certainly be back.
This pub sits very conveniently in walking distance of the City Centre and Salamanca, and is well-worth the stroll for the food, wine list and service. The Duke makes a point of using local Tasmanian produce wherever possible. My wife had the belly pork which came with baby carrots, all sitting on a delightful corn mash with spiced apple chunks. I had the Shoulder of Lamb which came with baby beetroots, beans and cress, sitting on a sweet potato mash. Both meals were cooked perfectly and the presentation was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and able to discuss the menu options in great detail. There was also live music but it was a little loud in the dining room for us so we took our meal in the bar area. We highly recommend The Duke for it's high-quality food and excellent service.
Have you spoken to Doug yet? If you're here in Hobart and walked into Duke's you better tell Doug what you're doing and he'll share the local knowledge. The food is amazing. Everyone that works is friendly and helpful. Great live music too
