The Sushi here is fantastic. The staff are so lovely and catering. While the menu doesn't explicitly detail a lot of vegan options, they are always happy to provide off-menu options. And they are DELICIOUS Have been here many times, with many more to comeFood: 5/5
Has some old school charm, with wallpaper artwork walls and a long mirror on the ceiling in a narrow space. Train of food was underwhelming but it was late, yet ordering from the menu had some great offerings. Tasty servings and enjoyable with more beef and mostly salmon plates. Good service and good prices as well.Food: 5/5
Recently visited after a long break and was a bit disappointed. It was lunch time and the selection on the train was pretty average. I mentioned to the staff that there was too much salmon and not much else - no vegetarian options and only chicken as the non seafood choice. I waited at least 15 minutes after talking to the staff with no new dishes put on the train. What I did have was tasty but the overall experience was not as good as my previous visits.
So tasty! Great fresh selection, order from menu too we had the beef & rice and prawn Gyoza. Will be back and has exceeded my fave sushi train in newtown
I like the sushi here, they are well-formed and meet my expectations when it comes to flavour. My only complaint is that the menu has a relatively small variety of seafood.
Small portion but very nice quality for the price. All sushi dishes on the rail are the same price which is really good imo. I had the karaage udon and SO had the teriyaki chicken rice bowl. Both small - yet it was enough to get us almost full. Udon broth was light and heart-warming. Chicken karaage is very soft, juicy and crunchy - as how it should be. Too often I’ve tried karaage here that taste like rubber, or pieces of fried flour... Teriyaki chicken rice bowl was very filling. The sauce was just right - not too sweet nor too salty. Perfect with rice. We only tried a few sushi dishes because the udon and rice bowl already got us half full tbh. I was skeptical at first but everything was surprisingly good. Salmon with cream cheese was unexpectedly good - a bit too much cream cheese for me but probably just my taste. I was very amused with the spring roll-inspired/Viet-inspired? rolls lol as pictured. Not gonna try, but I’m amused with how they came up with that.
This is by far the best sushi train restaurant in Australia! I've been there now on numerous occasions. The sushi is consistently super fresh. The service is fantastic. They have a simple 'one price for all plates' pricing model, and it's so reasonably priced that it's the first sushi train I've been to where I'm not constantly totalling up the number of plates/cost in my head as I'm eating. I was recently travelling around Australia to a couple of different destinations where I tried some sushi trains that had good reviews. Wow - compared to Tanshin, they were so disappointing. It seems I am forever limited to eating at a sushi train in Newtown if I want to eat consistently highly quality sushi!! And the staff/owners are so lovely, friendly and down to earth. I feel so welcome each time I go there.
Dang this place is underrated, we came and it was empty, no customer and no plates on the sushi train maybe it was late 8pm, everything is alittle run down, but damn every dish was very generous and very well thought out, hit the spot and than some!
the sushi was ok nothing special. the salmon teriyaki bento was too sweet and a little fishy. the chicken karaage has a bit of a raw smell. but fresh wasabi and ginger! quite rare in sydney. place was a little dim, the sushi train has not much going during lunch time which sort of defeats the purpose of it. the place just didn’t maximise it’s potential tbh.
Food is delicious, although the size is a bit small, price is reasonable, cash 10% discount
