Swinburne University is a great institution for many reasons. In terms of location, it’s conveniently situated next to Glenferrie Station and shopping strip, perfect for quick coffee breaks. There are also plenty of shops on campus and lots of cozy spots to grab something to eat between classes.nnThe university hosts a variety of events during the semester, with many clubs setting up stalls all over campus. They offer comedy nights, karaoke at The Junction, guest speakers, and insightful seminars. Although they do a good job of concealing the numerous international arms trade deals they’re involved in, you can find links to some of this research on campus. It’s world-class research, and if it weren’t contributing to so much destruction, I’d be quite impressed.nnThe facilities are excellent, with plenty of well-maintained toilets and buildings cared for by staff and students. Friendly staff are always available to help you navigate the grounds, and the library is a one-stop shop for any information you might need. If you’re a student or looking for a place to study, the inner-city campus is highly accessible, with a nice blend of greenery throughout the buildings that brings the campus to life.
As an international student, pursuing a master's degree in construction and infrastructure management. In my experience with this university, they're in the top positions in teaching the civil and engineering field in Melbourne. I'm becoming more confident in my field thanks to their on campus practices, lectures, labs and tutorial activities.
Swinburne University: Excellent research, innovation, and industry ties. Modern campus, diverse student body. High living costs and occasional admin delays. Great for education and careers.
There is barely anyone available to help you out with study matters. There are so many different departments for everything and they just cast you off from one department to another. They don't deal with this, talk to this person then that person sends you to someone else and on and on no one actually helps you. Theres no one to talk to in person its all email which takes 5 buisness days for each message so a matter that could've taken 10 minutes takes 3 months.nTheres so much miscommunication between departments, one person says ask this person for this form, that person says theres no such thing as this form etc.nThey have just decided to keep everything online after covid to escape having to provide any assistance to students and take any responsibility. There's no where to complain to, no one to ask questions or help accept for the students in HQ who cant help. Whats the point of even having a campus if everything is online anyway.
Just an overall horrible experience with support from Swinburne Open Education. I went with Swinburne Open Education and their higher than average fees expecting a more premium service. Literally they couldn’t even pretend to be competent for the first week of my course, luckily was able to withdraw before the extremely short “cooling off period” but they’ll still keep some of your money for “admin fees” even though the administration was a key failing in their ability to provide a service. Avoid at all costs!
