Wow, I did not expect these reviews to be so polarised and extreme. I transferred from a regular public school in year 10 and TC has been beyond great to me. The absence of uniform has been a wonderful change and a beautiful outlet for self expression, conversation-starting, and finding people of similar niches. Their breaks are also structured differently to most schools, ensuring that you have a break between every class as well as shorter school hours on Wednesday and Friday, where you end at 2:00PM. Teachers can be a hit or miss, educationally speaking, but in my experience all have been friendly and fairly competent. The school generally has a much more straightforward, flexible, relaxed and student-driven environment than others and the school does not enforce unnecessary policies and rules. This school also allows you to take classes above your year level e.g. you can take a unit 1&2 subject in year 10 and finish the units 3&4 in year 11, which many students choose to do to more evenly distribute VCE workloads. This school will not academically suffocate you and thus requires some self-study and extra initiative for your own learning, but the difference is not exceptional. Some, such as I, work best with this level of agency and self-study, whilst for others school-imposed pressure may be the best motivator and teacher. This school is also FULL of alternative, neurodivergent and queer students, which is wonderfully refreshing. And as for the comments regarding bullying and disruptive classmates, I don't believe it to be an especially big issue in the school - not much bigger than any other, at least. How terrible your classmates will be is really a test of chance. And bullying and shitty kids are pretty much unavoidable and shared across every school, but it definitely gets better with age.nHaving said my piece, I have only been here a term and will be transferring back to my previous school by the end of term break, as I have not socially integrated into the school as well as I hoped likely due to my older age and public transport to the school is irritatingly poor. But if you are considering enrolling, I can offer my positive experience as a testimony to the school's capacity for good!
I went here from year 7-9. People here were rude, loud, mean and disrespectful. People broke the rules and said slurs and teachers did nothing. One of the bathrooms was so disgusting they had to fully rebuild it, one of the bathrooms had a broken door for months, half the teachers had no idea what they were talking about. They cared more about attendance than mental health of the students. Don't go here.
Never, NEVER, send your child here. I went here and it was awful! The bathrooms are vandalised and full of kids doing drugs, I got a UTI because I couldn’t go to the bathroom. I got bullied and harassed for being disabled the point I tried to take my own life. The teachers didn’t help when I stopped attending for eight months, I don’t think they even noticed. Terrible.
The school is fantastic, I moved here in year 8 and found the system the school dun on to be extremely well thought out and focused on the individual. I found friends and now genuinely enjoy going to school. TC takes action and cares about its students voice. I really love this school and feel very supported. My teachers are all kind and motivated to teach they engage you in your learning. I really encourage anyone who loves learning and wants an supportive and kind community to go here.
Pupils very polite and friendly and gave good directions to mango collection! School looked clean, neat and tidy
