We went with friends to this place and absolutely everyone was thrilled with the atmosphere, the tour and the narration by a guide who practically grew up in these tunnels. This is a must for visitors with teenage boys. The walk up to the stony batter is very scenic for beautiful photos.
So much history in the tunnels and buildings. Excellent tour guide with great knowledge and enthusiasm. Fun time exploring the tunnels and special rooms for display of art and music as well. Quite a surprise. Landscape is spectacular and lucky to be able to see. 1km walk from carpark to stoney batter across private farm land. Highly recommended.
Absolutely fantastic!! The tour guide Ezra was so passionate about what he does and it made for an enjoyable tour! There is quite a walk from the car park to the tunnels so if you aren’t use to walking keep that in mind.
Enjoy a brisk walk from the parking area to the actual site which is roughly 1.1 km. The sea views and landscape is truly beautiful and allow for some really great photos. The tour is approximately 45 minutes in duration and is both informative and very interesting.
What an interesting and unexpected place to visit in Waiheke. The reserve itself is worth the visit, but the tunnels are so cool! We had a great guide too!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The walk up to tunnel entrance isn’t that bad. My 75 year old dad could do it. Senior discounts available.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Fantastic tour through the tunnels and old gun placements. Allow 30min to walk from the car park to the tunnels for 1.1km.
Awesome guided tour of the gun emplacements and tunnels today with my wife and grandson. A fascinating piece of WWII history and an important local story that has been brought back to life. Thanks to tour guide Michael for sharing the story. This is a must seeVisited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
What an amazing place. Fantastic standing stones thrown from mainland volcanoes, 1.2k of tunnels excavated in secret to defend our largest city in WWII and eye boggling views. Amazing.
We had such a brilliant time. The guide was so well prepared and told some wonderful stories along the way. Well worth the trip across the island to see
