Absolutely LOVE this place!! Gary runs it so well and you can tell this in the food! It's nothing fancy but that's what makes it what it is! I would say reasonable on price as it's hard to eat anywhere in NZ without it costing the earth! We've been up a few times as locals and I normally love the breakfast and he loves the burgers! A little off the beaten track but worth it!!!

Love the decor! Love the music that they play! Milkshakes are really good. Beef Burger was good with its homemade pattie and the pickle on it was yum. Savoury pancake stack was nice with the bacon, banana and maple syrup. For the price and the word "stack" I was expecting more pancakes but you get 2. We also tried the steak pie n mash from the $17 trucker menu. The pie was microwaved, wasnt what we expected or very nice UPDATE 24/4 Had a great experience. Awesome meals and still yummy milkshakes

Wow what a fantastic place good to see it still open. I had taken my Mum and Daughter there on Saturday my Mum has not been back until then it's only taken 40 years. Gary and staff were magic food was fantastic cook to how we liked it! free mushrooms with garlic butter on my beautiful steak coffee was wonderful milkshake awesome. Old fashioned service I do highly recommend it such amazing place we will be back with a bus load.
The staff at De Brett's recommended this restaurant to us and I am glad they did! I feel like this is Taupo's best kept secret. Something we miss about American restaurant's is having a lot of choice in the menu and The Local Diner has plenty. Everyone in our family of 5 raved about what they ordered. Everything is fresh and homemade. Delicious!
Such a cool place! A real family friendly place, feels like you’re at home. The staff are so welcoming and have really great service. The food is really nice and affordable. Can’t believe I haven’t been before, I’ll definitely come back!
Was very nice. Was only 0ne lady for a start and she was going flat out. Another lady come in and took some of the pressure off. We had to wait a little while but was well worth it. Would recommend a place to dine.Food: 5/5

Best steak, perfectly cooked medium rare, great service and spotlessly clean. You get what you order e.g. steak and chips is just that, perfectly cooked. This is a diamond in the rough. You won't be disappointed.
