Story

The School of Philosophy has been offering practical philosophy courses in Melbourne since 1977. It is a not-for-profit institute welcoming all students interested in the pursuit of spiritual and emotional well-being, regardless of education, occupation, age, culture or religion.

"Practical Philosophy is neither an academic study, a history of philosophies, nor even a comparative study of philosophers. Rather, it is a process by which philosophical principles are tested in the light of experience, so that the value of these principles can be truly known and incorporated into one’s experience of living.Drawn from the great philosophical teachings of the East and West, both past and present, the principles presented in the courses offered by the School of Philosophy have helped many people to enjoy a deeper understanding of themselves, their world and humankind."

Philosophy begins in wonder - about the purpose and meaning of life and a myriad of other things. Explore the big questions with like minded people, share experiences, and enjoy the good company. It's a rare opportunity to look deeply at yourself, toss out what doesn't serve you, and become your best self.
I like the School of Philosophy because it presents a non-academic philosophy of life series of classes where you look at life’s big questions including ‘what’s it all about’? People meet in groups where camaraderie is quickly established and friendships are formed. Many people report a sense of ‘coming home’ when they first join the School as they have been searching for something of meaning and have finally found a place where they feel in sync with like-minded searchers. After all, it’s not every day you can have a discussion with someone about the big questions of life! There are no tests to pass I enjoy being part of an organization which is a friendly community where we meet regularly - and we even enjoy home-baked biscuits and cakes at times!
Nice people in charge. Well run outfit. My only gripe is the program is a bit rigid, they could probably take it to the next level if the teachers were given more leeway to personalize the program to their own life experience.
The school is an important part of my life and I enjoy and appreciate the continuing opportunity to refresh the practices that have made my life more balanced.
The School helps us live with more calmness and ease and less distress about things that might bother us.
This course is pure philosophy made practical. Lots of discussion and lots of laughter. Mostly at yourself. Love it.
A unique place - not for profit, genuinely interested in wisdom and truth and no agenda. The amount of timeless knowledge available is remarkable. Friends and family have also attended and enjoyed it.
Come share the magical mystery tour of exploring who you are
Great course, opened my mind to everything...a service to humanity
