Excellent dinner experience. We ordered the set dinner Take No Hana. The entrees were slightly bland, however all the following dishes were amazing. The miso salmon was very well balanced and the sauce complemented the fish very well. The short ribs were cooked well, with a smokey flavour. The dessert we had was a chocolate moose with seasame ice cream which was an excellent end to the meal. The service was good, however due to the busy restaurant the edamame we ordered never came.
Beautiful location, friendly service and amazing presentation of dishes. Highlights was definitely the sushi - super fresh and melt in your mouth. Some dishes were quite average in my opinion - the shumai had a weird texture and the dumplings were ok, not the best.
I can see why this place gets great reviews and gets booked out. I came for dinner after a show at Hamer Hall. I had a reservation but ended up having to wait another 40 minutes to be seated. I wasn’t keen on sitting right near the entrance with an open wide door with cold winter air blowing right in, so had to wait to be seated elsewhere. I wanted to have the set menu but it wasn’t possible dining for one. Ended up having something similar to the set menu but at a greater price which was a shame. The king fish, the miso glazed or king salmon and dragon egg dessert were great. The theatre of the dragon egg melting was cool. The staff were friendly. I would’ve given this place 5 stars if I didn’t have to wait the extra 40 minutes.
Nice location on Southbank and a good venue inside although a little dark. The food was good and the premium pricing reflected this. It's worth trying if you are on a date night or special occasion and offers something different to the other restaurants along Southbank, the majority before you reach crown are mostly western food options
Wet night in Melbourne. We sat outside as they had great heaters and we were warm all night. Service very professional and attentive. Slightly pricey but well worth it and shared all plates. Food was amazing. The pilot noise Mount Macleod was exceptional Vegetarian options: Great choices for vegetarian Wheelchair accessibility: Flat access
Have been here a few times with different friends & more than happy to return again - being one of my favourite places for Japanese fusion. This visit we settled for two small & two large & a salad ; steamed prawn dumpling shumai & popcorn shrimp - delicate & delicious. Fragrant Duck Breast - morsels of tender duck, Cape Grim Short rib - tender, tasty nicely balanced with house salad. We decided on palette cleansers of white sesame icecream & raspberry sorbet - another satisfying visit ….. bookings highly recommended as this place is buzzingly busy!!
Quite the experience with the set menu on offer. The place has a good selection of drinks as well to explore. Loved the dragon egg dessert and literally came back a second time for it.
We are soooo getting the corona from here, the table beside us cough every 2 sec I swear! The whole time I was trying to hold my breath even though I know it’s a futile attempt . I’ve been here multiple time love their toothfish hence I’m here : but I didn’t wait for dessert this time. Good food and service from the actual restaurant is incredible. Everything is on the saltier side for me but that’s personal preference. Overall, I will be back next time :
Visited Saké for the very first time and my first experience was great! Atmosphere was nice and definitely in the mood for the crowd it takes, food was small proportion as what you would expect on a fancy resto however it all tasted amazing! Service was nice, all very friendly. We just ordered through a number of dishes and didn’t pick the set menu. Overall, would recommend if you want something fancy!
ORDERED 09/22: Take No Hana: Nori crisps, hiramasa kingfish, grass fed seared beef renkon chips, prawn dumpling shumai, popcorn shrimp, miso glazed ora king salmon, house salad, cape grim short rib, miso soup, chefs selection dessert $109.00pp + ora king salmon shake sashimi: 4 pieces $24.00 REVIEW: Came back a second time to Sake to try their set menu. We agreed they still maintain their 4/5 stars! The set menu was quite filling, and we full after the ora king salmon with house salad dish... but that may be because we added the sashimi beforehand. We were just craving sashimi!! My favourite was the grass fed seared beef renkon chips for its unique concept, as well as the prawn dumpling shumai. Weakest for me was the cape grim short rib which was tender but I felt like had no flavour. Very similar to the feeling of eating food that someone has already spit out - so you only get the texture my friend GROSSLY disagrees here . We were seated downstairs this time around. Happy to report we did NOT have a wobbly table. Now that I've tried the set menu and the a la carte, the a la carte is the way to go. It was great to experience what the chefs pulled together, but now that I know what I like from Sake... it's going to be a la carte all the way! Especially when it's twice the price, but I did not get twice the enjoyment . ---------------------------- ORDERED 06/22: Merimbula Oyster: bold mineral zing on the palate, rich, creamy finish with a umami after taste $5.50 Small Sashimi Moriawase: 10 pieces of raw fish, featuring salmon, tuna and kingfish $33.00 Nigiri Moriawase: 8 pieces $29.00 Grass fed beef tataki: with sansho, shiitake, wakame, shisho dressing $26.00 Roughly ~$50pp REVIEW: Really enjoyed our brief time here. We were still from lunch, and we also tried to order dishes that weren't on the set menu we're coming back!. Loved the oyster and how creamy it was. It went too fast... which made me wish I had another serving of it! The vinaigrette is gentle and a perfect complement to the creaminess of the oyster to add some 'zing'. The sashimi and nigiri itself was fresh, and my friend said it was better than when we went to Komeyui... where we paid double the price. -1 because a wobbly table ain't it. Service was friendly and the views of the Yarra was great at night. Turns out there's some sort basic laser show going on? Looking forward to going back to Sake and trying their set menu!
