Absolutely horrible experience.nnI came to the emergency department with chest pain that had lasted over a week. I waited from 11:40 PM to 5:30 AM, and all that was done was an ECG. I was given paracetamol and left to sit in pain for hours with no real care or urgency.nnAt 4 AM I was finally moved to a bed, only to be ignored again for over an hour. When I asked what was happening, I was told my condition wasn’t life-threatening and that other people’s pain was worse as if my pain didn’t matter.nnI’m a 20-year-old student. This was a terrifying, exhausting, and deeply disappointing experience. I ended up leaving the hospital still in pain because I was constantly being told to wait another 3 hours, again and again, with no communication or compassion.nnIt was clear the system is overwhelmed, but the lack of basic human decency and communication was unacceptable. I came in scared and left even more scared and still unwell.nnPlease dont ever come into this A and E if you are having an emergency the lack of urgency in an emergency department has traumatised me.
I slipped at home and dislocated my arm. I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant and was in extreme pain, so my husband took me to Royal Perth Hospital. I felt like I was going to pass out, so my sister-in-law ran into the Emergency Department to ask for a wheelchair while my husband tried to support me.nnUnfortunately, an older blonde lady wearing a t-shirt with a sticky note that said “Volunteer” was extremely rude to my sister-in-law and said, “It’s her goddamn hand, she can walk.” We were shocked and deeply hurt by her lack of compassion in such a distressing moment.nnHowever, aside from that one volunteer, every single staff member in the Emergency Department was incredibly kind and professional. The nurse in Triage 2 was exceptionally sweet, and the doctors and nurses who treated me showed great care, especially considering my pregnancy. Dr. Derek, who fixed my arm, and the amazing nurses who administered pain relief and addressed all my concerns about my unborn baby, deserve special thanks.nnI’m truly grateful for the exceptional care I received. Thank you to everyone who helped me through such a painful and frightening experience.
We waited for 4 to 5 hours in the emergency department without a single check-in or update from the staff. This is beyond unacceptable. For a place that calls itself an emergency department, the lack of urgency, care, and basic communication is absolutely disgraceful.nnPatients were left sitting in pain and distress, completely ignored. No triage reassessment, no updates, no compassion. It felt like we were invisible. This is not just poor service—it’s a failure of duty of care.nnI hope immediate action be taken to improve patient wait times and ensure people are treated with the urgency and dignity they deserve.nnShameful and deeply disappointing.
I would like to express my concern regarding the experience we had with your emergency services. We were advised to wait for 5–6 hours, which raises the question of what constitutes an “emergency” in this context.nnWe had to leave three children at home, including our youngest who is only four months old, and this situation was clearly communicated to the staff. Unfortunately, despite explaining these challenges, we found the staff to be uncooperative and lacking in empathy.nnIt was an extremely frustrating experience, particularly given the nature of an emergency visit. I sincerely hope steps can be taken to improve the management of emergency patients and the support provided to those in difficult circumstances.
I was unfortunate to require an emergency visit to RPH for a very painful bowel obstruction last week . I have certainly changed my pre-conceived opinion of RHH. My whole experience from the ambulance trip to immediate admission was faultless, I was given pain relief straight away, then given a bed in a fully monitored ward. It was Sunday night around 7pm and I was operated on by top surgeon Mr Patrick Tan who was called in and I was in theatre just after midnight! I had been enjoying lunch with friends and operated on within hours! Totally shocked at the speed this event happened but was reassured I would be cared for by wonderful staff! Thank you Royal Perth Emergency
