Queensland Art Gallery

About

This is the official page of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art. Two vibrant galleries that connect art and people.

Story

Queensland's premier visual arts institution, the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), connects people and art through a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions that showcase works from a diverse range of historical and contemporary artists.

Enriching the cultural life of Brisbane, these two vibrant and accessible galleries, the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) and the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), offer distinct, yet complementary experiences.

QAGOMA’s highly acclaimed Children’s Art Centre presents engaging and interactive exhibitions and events for visitors of all ages and the cinemas at GOMA features films by influential and popular film makers and artists.

The Gallery’s restaurant and cafes have options to suit every visit — from lunch by the river to elegant contemporary dining. The QAGOMA Store features a broad selection of books on art and design, including QAGOMA publications; jewellery, design objects, kids toys and art merchandise.

Admission is free, except for special exhibitions and some Cinema programs.

For more information on the Gallery's exhibitions, programs and events visit www.qagoma.qld.gov.au

This is a wonderful place to visit slowly and enjoy frequently. Start with the building, which is well laid out, airy and will never make you feel like you are in a confined space. The exhibits are varied and will keep you entertained for hours. The collection of aboriginal art is rich and stands out when compared to others in Australia. The collection of Australian art is revealing, surprising and never disappointing. If there is an improvement to suggest, it would be the cafeteria, which like many similar establishments in Australia is overpriced and offers little in return.

Excellent to go for a wander anytime but especially during our heatwave months and rainy days. :) The nearest cafe costs one kidney and a lobe of your liver... and that's just for a croissant. So maybe have lunch first (or a hearty breakfast) and enjoy your wander.

Beautiful facility and wonderful collection! Most exhibits are free, donation requested, well worth the visit. Staff very friendly.

This gallery has a wonderful and extensive collection of art works and admission is free! The art works are housed in a modern building, which in itself is a work of art, displaying the collection to its best advantage. In addition to its permanent collection, the gallery often has a travelling exhibition from other galleries (there is often a charge to see these). The Queensland Art Gallery is a "must see" for any visitor to Brisbane.

This gallery specifically celebrates the diversity of firstly Australian art and embraces the rich tapestry of international artists. The Art Gallery of Queensland, although smaller than some of the other national galleries still offers a rich gamut of culturally iconic works in a wide range of media. It is well worth a visit.
