More eating challenge than eating. I went in wanting to love this restaurant based on it's values and concepts. I left with a sub par experience at best, with the only highlight being surprisingly zesty green ants, and the end of the meal. Whilst I love the idea of native ingredients and traditional techniques, I feel that flavour has been lost in the pursuit of technique.

Great use of Australian sourced products, very knowledgeable staff, wine pairing was perfect, however I felt that some ingredients were just used for their 'wow factor' and their price, for example the beef fat used in many of the dishes. I felt it was an overpowering flavour that overshadowed other elements of each dish. Overall a worthwhile visit.

Fantastic service and lovely staff. As for the food, not so. Diverse indigenous ingredients that did not have me wanting more on any course. Huge disappointment for the money. I expect the bistro downstairs will provide a much more rounded and satisfying experience.

Went here with great expectations and it started really well, the damper with lamb butter was amazing, however it all went downhill from there. It is very seafood heavy, about 9 of the 16 dishes were seafood. To top it all off, they all had a very strong sea / seaweed odour and flavour. Few dishes were really amazing, especially the kangaroo and the agnolotti. Dessert started off really well, however the set buffalo milk was salty, not sure who came up with a salty dessert, it wasn't a pleasant ending. Not to bag the place, it actually was a great experience, staff were amazing and it was interesting learning about the ingredients, but I don't think we'll ever be back.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE VEGETARIAN. The vegetarian 'protein substitutes' were appalling. For example, whilst the rest of the table was served oysters, I was given half (yes, half!) a baby sweetcorn. This set the tone for the rest of the meal, it would have been laughable if it wasn't so expensive. No effort or thought at all put into the vegetarian substitute dishes. Very, very poor for a restaurant voted best in Australia. If Orana believe their approach and philosophy to their food is such that they cannot offer a complete vegetarian dining experience, then I suggest they do not offer it at all.
