6 of us stayed overnight while cycling Opua to Horeke. Couldn’t ask for more from Ray. Beer was cold, massive meal which most of us couldn’t finish. Rooms dated but clean and tidy. Locals friendly.👍

What happens when 4 islanders walk into this hotel?? YOU GET TURNED AWAY!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED AT THE WAY WE WERE TREATED. While attending a funeral in Omanaia (from Auckland), we needed accommodation. I called the hotel where he stated he had rooms available, gave me the price and I advised I was on my way there (being 30 minutes away) he said, yip no worries i'll hold the rooms for you until 9pm (contacted him approx. 8pm) as we were 5 minutes away, I called again to let him know "no worries see you shortly" We walked into the hotel and told him we were the ones who booked the rooms for 4 "oh sorry we're fully booked" "but we just called you and you said you had rooms available" "yeah sorry another place referred their overflow to us so we need to take them on first sorry" SO DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED. Left us stranded in an unfamiliar town, driving around this area we don't know, trying to find a place to stay. So grateful for a local who helped us out and found us a place to stay.

Ray was the most hospitable host we could have had. His cuisine was fab, tasty and nourishing to build our strength for the wonderful twin cycle trail. Thank you Ray, we will return.

This charming historic hotel is centrally located for the Northland cycling trail and its proximity to the Naptha thermal pools is an added bonus. Our accommodation as well as the shared facilities were clean and comfortable. Rae cooked us hearty dinners with heaps of vegetables . Rae was a charming host. Thank you Rae. Sheila and Salim
