I stayed here twice, about 6 weeks apart. My first time, the van arrived promptly at the airport to collect me. Both times, I was checked in quickly. The second time, I had a smooth ride to the airport at 5 in the morning. While location is not the greatest if you don't have a car it is a 15 minute walk to the Mangere Town Centre, the #32 bus to and from Otahuhu and Sylvia Park stops outside. I confess I stayed here because it was the cheapest motel with shuttle I could find. I was concerned by the rage filled comments, but found this to be good value. Sure, it's a bit shabby, one of the rooms I stayed in had a taped over hole in the wall, but it was clean and comfortable. The bed was soft, the room had red plastic chairs but a marble topped table. It had a fridge and wee sink. The Internet worked fine.
I've stayed here previously but years ago. The rooms are a bit dates but clean and comfortable. I could see that they are currently doing some major renovations and obviously trying to bring it up a step or two, and I'm sure they will. They. I longer have a restaurant but provide details in numerous locations close by that would suit pretty much any person's taste and there's always Uber. The staff I dealt with were fabulous and know exactly what friendly customer service means. Looking forward to another visit to see the exciting changes/updates they've made.
Checked in and the floor was dirty, skirting boards grubby, no toilet roll holder, carpet lifting, stuff all over the walls, no feet on bed, roof with stuff all over it. NO Privacy or nets only dirty curtains. Shown another room and smelt like sweat and smoke, graffiti all over furniture. To be fair one star is one too many. $150 a night is not worth it awaiting refund and will never go back again really needs a complete makeover. To top it off the staff were complaining I asked them to clean the carpets correctly while I was in reception.
DO NOT STAY HERE. - Room 153 - Wifi drops and disconnects every 10 seconds, basically useless. Asked the reception to reboot - same issue. - Cracked window in bathroom it is dangerous you could feel the air through the crack and yes it’s sharp to the touch. - No air con just a dirty old fan & a budget portable heater. - Beds are so low as they have no legs so the bases are directly on the floor - not fun for us 6’ft tall people. - The shower base blocks up with water as soon as you turn the shower on. It fills up to 2cm. Had to shower quickly and turn it off before it overflowed out into the flooring of the bathroom. Terrible. - The shelving in the fridge is all damaged. - No shower gel was offered at all. We got 3 hand soaps though wow - Reception called our room 3 times at 3am in the morning for no reason. - Only one small bin in the kitchen for all the trash. - Oakwood did not disclose that there are works going on in the rooms on each side of us. Too late for a refund and so we were stuck with the noise. - They do not allow a second key for the room however there are 3 of us here doing different things - with one key. At least supply a second key and charge a hefty fee if it gets lost. - Worse stay ever considering the price we paid for a 3 night stay.
When booking I asked I could leave my rental car keys with them to be picked up by the rental company, I was told this was fine. Upon arrival I mentioned this to the staff again we don't look after keys, I told her that was advised that you would over phone and if not I would need a refund and go elsewhere, she agreed to hold the keys and I was to get rental company to phone to arrange pickup, so I booked the hotel shuttle to the airport for 5am upon arrival the guy was very nasty and refused to mind the keys stating "last time he did that there staff member stole the vehicle!" He drove off and left us in the dark, by the time we got the car sorted and got a taxi to the airport we missed our flight. In addition the pool was slimey green, very run down rooms, pillows were so old they had no stuffing left in them, I would not recommend this hotel ever!
Proximity to the Airport is the only saving grace for this place. Built without double glazing or noise reducing insulation, unavoidable noise from others coming and going impacts guests. As you drive in carefully avoiding the potholes you start to understand the business model the owners operate on. Limit expenses by not conducting repairs or preventative maintenance, employ as few cleaners as possible and charge well above the ask for a one or two star hotel. So it wasn't clean, fittings and fixtures didn't work window locks/controls or were simply missing door buffer to shower, the shower wall was swollen from moisture penetration, carpet was sticky, shower drained so slow it was almost ankle deep by the time we finished a short shower.
It was a disappointment booking this place. No wifi in the room we booked; when I raised it with the staff, they said they couldn't fix it or do anything and told me to talk to their manager, who wasn't there. The bathroom basin was blocked, no toilet roll holder and the place smelled terrible. I requested a baby cot in my booking, and it wasn't there in the room; when I asked about it, I was given a dirty one. Even one star is too much for this place. Not recommended.
The room we booked apparently had a plumbing problem which they knew about but still rented the room. I had a shower and the water nearly went up over the top. The toilet seat was loose as, the toilet roll holder was broken, there was mould all around the ceiling wall in the bathroom and we couldn’t use the rear entry because the door latch was broken worst ever stay should not be allowed to be booked to anyone in that state. I reported it to the receptionist and told them I wanted a refund So far has t happened
Few options were left at late notice without costing a bomb. Check-in was ok. The room is very dated. Hole in the wall covered in tape. The walls were paper thin and every time a door in another room has closed the wall which was also the bed headboard would shake. The phone went off twice during the night. The shower was good. The toilet seats need replacing as yellow. It did the job but would not stay again.
Staying here was a disaster. Booked in April because of proximity to Ak airport, 7mins, this was true. Arrived, happy to confirm booking and take money then the fun started. No key, person already in our allocated room. Found another room, no key. Poor receptionist could not contact owners. Ended up eating cold pizza in abandoned restaurant room no longer being used because it took so long for reception to organize and then could only enter room by back door using service key. Unit was clean and tidy. Issues not over, bed had no legs on bottom of bed. Went back to reception, 3 other guests who originally witnessed our previous problem were handing back keys, not staying had found other better accomodation so reception asked if one of our couples would be happy to use their room. So ended up on opposite side of manor from group. Did not end there. Arrived for shuttle to airport 15mins early. Young man loaded cases in van and disappeared. Another man arrived, locked his car outside reception went in Anderson receptionists left complex. Sat in shuttle for 15mins. Asked man at reception what was happening as had flight to catch, he tried phoning for driver, no luck Eventually he shut office and drove us, still only a 7minute drive, bit we were late for checking in, so caused lot's of stress. Website gives good impression buy organisation on their party extremely lacking. Would not recommend staying here. The young receptionist when we arrived did do her very best
